Conductor Frank Rank had the pay
masters special Hastings to Denver
Wednesday and Thursday Ely had his

Engineer Dickman of the Oxford Red
Cloud run returned to work last Satur
day after a weeks layoff Engineer
Wickwire relieved him
The passenger crews have all been
given assigned runs four crews to 1 and
6 four to 2 and 3 four to 5 12 11 and 14
west three to 15 and 16
Mr and Mrs John McArthur and
little daughter will leave weeks end
for Colorado to enjoy Denver and the
mountains for a week or ten days
Conductor Willis Miller of the Oxford
Red Cloud run returned to work Thurs
day after being off about a week on ac
count of sickness in his family Con
ductor Scott relieved him
W M Stoner will go to Red Clcud
about the first of the month to assume
the duties of roadmaster on that terri
tory vice P H Herrigstadt who goes
to Denver in a similar capacity
Engineer J G Inglis house was
struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon
and damaged somewhat No one was
hurt nor did fire follow The bolt
played some peculiar pranks
Jim Powell and brother were down
from the farm near Max first of the
week on business and to see oldtime
friends Jim will be remembered as
having been for years section foreman
at McCook
Dispatcher R G Knowles and family
returned from his vacation first of the
week and he went on his trick Tues
day Iowa Salt Lake City and Boulder
were among the points visited They
werein Boulder the day of the big ex
plosion and fire

W E Do Witt is in tho city today Ho
has been offered a position with the
company here and may decide to resume
work in McCook which looks better to
him since ho has been around some
Lamont Baker formerly a passenger
brakeman out of McCook late with
Missouri Pacific was terribly injured
Monday afternoon by falling between
the cars He is with his parents at
Hastings now and hopes are entertained
he will recover
BARTLEY
Mr Wilcox of McCook called in Bart
ley last week looking up his friends in
terested in his nomination for county
treasurer
Perry Ginther has traded the Bartley
flour mill for a valuable Missouri farm
and cash and gives possessien this week
Ira Ritchie has gone to Colorado as
engineer for one of Tom Sauls big
threshing outfits
Dr Jeffries of Haigler is here visiting
Dr Arbogast
Miss Effie McCord is quite sick this
week
The Christian Endeavor society was
reorganized last Sunday morning
School teachers are in demand in this
part of the county They are not on a
strike but there is a shortage
A good clothing store could do a nice
business here as the line is not repre
sented
The hen and rooster ordinance is now
in full force but the biddies like the ex
press company pay no attention to the
law
There will be plenty of good corn in
this vicinity if nothing worse happens to
it than has
Fred Premer is here on a visit to his
friends
Mrs A F McCord is having a pleas
ant visit with relatives and friends in
Missouri
Dr Arbogast was called professionally
to Cambridge Tuesday evening
The flour mill is now illuminated
with electric lights
Cyrus Blake and grand daughter from
Havana was in Bartley Wednesday con
sulting Dr Arbogast
Mr and Mrs Ed Voiles are rejoicing
over a fine boy baby that came to them
Sunday morning
The hotel committee went to Cam
bridge Wednesday to look over the
new hotel being built there with a view
of getting a model for the Bartley hotel
The fine rain of about one inch made
us all glad Wednesday night

Hoard of county commissioners met pursuant
to adjournment present C 1 Gray FS Lofton
and S Premer commissioners P U Reeder
attorney and E J Wilcox clerk
Tho minutes of previous meeting were read
and on motion approved
At tho hour of ten oclock a m the matter of
the petition of S H Howe and others foj the
vacation of that portion of Ashbnry acnue in
tho village- of Bartley described as follows to
wit
To vacate all that part of tho west side of
Ashbnry aonuo flfteou foot in width extending
from tho north lino of OaV street on the south
to tho north lino of Central addition to said
village of Bartley on tho north and also to va
cate a strip oil the east sido of said Ashbury
avenuo fifteen feet in width and extending
from the north Hue of Oak street on the south
to tho north lino of Central addition to said
village of Bartley on the north came on for
hearing before tho board of county commission
ers on consideration whereof tho board finds
that duo notice of said application has been
given for thirty days by posting five notices of
said application in five of the most public places
within the limits of the said village of Bartley
which notices contained a particular descrip
tion of the portion of Ashbury avenue desired
to be vacated and tho time at which tho appli
cation would be made to the county board for
an order of vacation as required by law that
proof of compliance with the provisions of sec
tion 3 of chapter 91 compiled statutes of Ne
braska for 1905 has been made by the oath of
two persons and tho applicants having given
good and sufficient security for costs incurred
in said matter payable to the county
It is therefore ordered by the board that
Harry L Brown Ira Sheets and S W Clark
three disinterested house holders of tho village
of Bartley be and they are hereby appointed to
examine Ashbury in tho village of Bartley a
portion of which is desired to be vacated and
at the next regular meeting of the board report
whether in their opinion any injustic or incon
venience will be worked by the vacation of that
portion of said Ashbury avenue as is prayed
for by the petitioners in said application

Mrs Stephen Bolles is entertaining

went to Thornburg last Tuesday to
visit Mrs Paul Stone
Last Saturday being Mrs J K Gor
dons birthday her daughters invited in
a few of her friends in the evening to
help her celebrate the event The time
was spent socially and eating ice cream
and cake
Grandpa Spaulding visited with Mr
and Mrs D B Doyle last Wednesday
With all the hot weather the Sunday

On motion the following resolutions were
approved and adopted
RESOLUTION
Resolved that the county treasurer is hereby
instructed to transfer to the respective school
districts all unexpended balances in the var
ious scoool bond districts when the obligations
of the bonded district have been fully satisfied
RESOLUTION
Resolved that the county treasurer is hereby
instructed to transfer the unexpended balance
in the county road fund proportionately to the
three commissioner districts Carried unani
