leadership of G A Greg- I ory a number of the teachers enjoyed an impromptu picnic in the city park last Friday night Rev A A Cressman of Red Cloud visited the normal school Tuesday morning and delighted tbo teachers with a wholesome enthusing and inspiring chapel hour talk As a former county superintendent and field secretary for Doatie college Mr Cressman has long been in touch with the teacher and her work Examinations for county certificates were conducted at the east ward school building libt Friday and Saturday About seventy applicants were present Total enrollment at the close of the first week wa 113 There were 12 ad ditional enrollments up to Wednesday night of this week Dr A J Jenison representative from Clay county in the last legislature and there u supporter of all State Supt Mc Briens educational bills visited the Junior Normal school Thursday and addressed the students botu at the cha pel hour in the morning and in the eve ning In the morning he spoke or the teachers responsibility and the part they played in shaping the destinies of the men and women of tomorrow In the evening he talked upon the better and developing course of study for the public schools and the duty of the teacher respecting the health of her pu pils Both addresses were earnestly de livered and were full of inspiring and profitable help for the teachers Several unique songs and school yells added to the enjoyment of both occasions Dr Jenison left last night for Almawhere he is to address the students at the Jun ior Normal school there today Large interest has been as an nounced No new date has been set for his visit Supt G A Gregory who has charge of the music classes this year is secur ing excellent results from the teachers The assembly chorus singing has large and appreciative Next Saturday night occurs the second number of the summer entertainment course a concert by the University of Nebraska Gleo Club This organiza tion of college bojs appeared before the State Teachers Association at Lincoln last winter and delighted the vast audi ence that assembled to hear them Tho glee club annually makes a tour through tho larger towns in tho western part of tho state This is the first visit of any college glee club to McCook and interest in their program will therefore be at high pitch All entertainemnts and lectures un less otherwise announced
