first of week E S Howell of the blacksmith shod went down to Lincoln and Havelock Tuesday night on a visit Mrs Howell accompanied him J W Kidenour who has been run ning on the west end for a short time returned to headquartersTuesday night to resume his usual run out of McCook Engine 651 is receiving crown bolts etc as a result of being fired up with out having sufficient water in her boiler the other night She had just been ex tensively repaired A fire at Holbrook last Friday night burned two freight cars and damaged the track somewhat delaying traffic slightly The repair gang replaced the warped steel Saturday morning W P Bross left Tuesday on a visit east Joe Mokko is acting chief clerk to Master Mechanic Culbertson during his absence and Tom OConnell is filling Joes position Bruce Campbell is clerk to Backshop Foreman Young meanwhile Engine 2703 was backed into engine 2012 Tuesday night in the Akron yard the pilot pilot beam and front end of the 2012 being damaged while the tank of the 2703 was considerably used up Both are in the roundhouse now for re pairs Engine 1910 is ready to go out of the backshop McMurrin is a new blacksmiths help er this week Engine 145 is just out of the backshop from an overhauling R H Tanner of Horton Kansas is a new man on the rod bench Engine 318 was placed in the back shop yesterday for an overhauling Engine 2810 is having some steam dome and boiler repairs this week Conductor W H Browne is running on the Alliance division temporarily A new stoel die has juBt been provided the steam hammer in the blacksmith shop Volney Gunderman and an engine col lided last night and Volnoya nose is broken as a result The exhaust pipe of the stationary en gine is being connected with the round house heating system Jack Greene machinist is spending a few days up in that vast wilderness of his in Dundy county H E Rogers of the trainmasters of fice arrived home early in the week from his visit of a few weeks in Illinois There is a whole trainload of wreck age carwheels trucks rods etc in the McCook yard gathered together in the Akron yard after the big fire of last Fri day night in which forty cars some of them empties Mrs J M Brown Sunday at one oclock Elder C P Evans of Arapahoe officiating The near relatives and a few invited friends were present Several valuable presents were received Mr and Mrs Hodgkin have been well and favorably known here for many years Their many friends join in wishingthem a prosperous and happy future Mr and Mrs F B Duckworth of Indianola attended the Hodgkin-Brown wedding Three carloads of apples and a carload of cabbage and onions were received here this week Mrs J R Sipe Harlan and the baby returned home Monday evening after a pleasant visit with Mrs Sipes parents in Kansas Gordon Athey of Wauneta and Miss Mary Theobald of Bartley were married at the home of the brides father Geo Theobald Thursday Rev Hageman officiat ing Mr and Mrs Athey are highly respected and all join in wishing them a long and happy life They left on the evening train for Wauneta where they will make their home Taylor Ginther has just put a new roof on his house in Bartley Geo Webber of Wahoo Neb came here Tuesday evening He will assist his father in erecting a new building on the foundation of the Dodd Dodd building which was destroyed by fire last April A photographer from Stockville is here this week and contemplates putting up a building for his busi ness which he is now conducting in a tent E E Smith this week bought the I A Lyman farm just south of the river paying 65 per acre and got it at a bargain There are several acres of the best alfalfa land in the county on the farm and it is otherwise well improved Fall wheat never looked better at this time of the year
