Had a Narrow Escape
Monsieur Joseph Menard had a narrow
escape from severe injury or worse Fri
day afternoon last in a runaway down
Main avenue Trulj it was the ride
of his life He started down the hill
from his residence driving his faithful
old family dpbbins in the phaeton
when the pole of the phaeton went
through the leathern keeper on the neck
yoke This let the phaeton run onto
the horses heels and they were off at
full speed JuBt in front of Knipples
store they collided with Knipples de
livery wagon and horse and their mad
career was ended Both vehicles were
slightly damaged but Mr Menard es
caped with slight injuries when it
looked as though severe injuries must
be his portion

to Lincoln Monday night by news of
the critical condition of his brother Wal
ter who is regarded as fatally ill with
rheumatism of the nerves
George Allen of Clay Center Chair
man for Congressman Norris spent
Sunday in the city in the interest of
the congressmans campaign which so
far has not been a strenuous one
B F Olcott sold his farm up in
Coleman precinct in March for S7000
This week the same farm was sold by
the purchaser Mr Bilhorn to a Mr
Hill of Richardson county for 8900000
G C Heckman of the McCook
Laundry attended the National
rymens convention in Pueblo Colo
last week A trip over the Moffat road
was a feature of the great time shown
the laundrjmen of the country by the
Coloradoans
C R Woorworth of Boise Idaho
has closed a deal for the purchase of
the Cone drug store which he expects
to assume charge of sometime about
the middle of October Mr and Mrs

Instantly Killed by Engine
Charles Medix an employe of the Mc
Cook Brick Co was struck by the en
gine drawing No 6 last night and in
stantly killed Medix came down from
Brush Colo last Saturday and went
to work for the brick people on Monday
of this week Nothing was known of
his people nor was anything found on
his person to locate his home He was
evidently making his way on the track
toward the brick yard in West McCook
and failed to get away from the track
far enough to clear the approaching en
gine
His remains were buried by the county
authorities today in Longview ceme
tery

Driving Park Association yesterday
met unfavorable weather but the three
events scheduled for the afternoon were
pulled off in good shape just the same
although the attendance was smaller
than anticipated chargeable however
to the rain aud threatening condition of
the weather
The 3 minuto trot was won in three
straight heats by Lola B best time
