This may be a tragic sad time to re
mind the Burlington railroad company
of the urgent necessity of a viaduct or
tunnel over or under the yard tracks be
tween tho headquarters building and
roundhouse in this city but in certainly
is opportune The Tribune hopes that
sorrow and bereavement may not come
into other homes and families before
this needed improvement becomes an
accomplished fact

thus secure control of the horses he
fell underneath the wagon which ran
over him The boy on horseback who
was the innocent cause of the runaway
was also the one to stop the runaways
The little ones were uninjured and the

Annuals For Employes
The Burlington railroad has institut
ed a new sort of pension for its employes
whose faithfulness has kept them in the
service for eighteen years or more It
is not in the form of retirement on half
pay or of soft jobs but the issuance
of annual passes good on all Burlington
lines and good for the employe himself
as well as the members of his family
Quito a number of engineers and con
ductors residing in Lincoln havo re
ceived their annucls The little pieces
of paste board take tho place of the
trip passes formerly issued and still
given to employes of lesser experience
when tho officials feel that they have
earned a free ride Heretofore when
employes have desired to take a trip
they have been obliged to make their
desiresknown to their immediate su
periors who submit to the division su
perintendent or some other high of
ficial The passes are then given out in
course of time through the routine of
the clercial force Lincoln Star

Whitman on Emerson
I often say of Emerson that the per

heart and soul of the man present in
all he writes thinks does hopes goes
far toward justifying the whole lit

I find nothing in literature that is val

which lies concealed and active in it
