time keeping business and Mrs Ely is

Conductor John Morris arrived home
last Saturday night from Illinois where
he was called several weeks ago by the
illness of his aged parents
It is a certainty that the September
pay roll will be tho largest in the history
of the McCook division Quite a num
ber of the boys will draw two checks

A switch engine has been placed in
service at Longmont during the sugar
beet rush and II R Childress is in
charge with John Masters as assistant
J R Pence and Andrew Dillon have
been transferred to the right side of the
cab Three Denver firemen ditto
Some ten new firemen came onto this
division this week
Conductor C W Dewey is over on
the Oberlin branch operating a ditcher
in the cuts many of them having been
damaged by the storms of this summer
and requiring work of this character
There are 196 bad order cars on the
rip track here now awaiting repairs
Several were recently sent here from
the Lincoln division to be repaired The
track here is now so crowded that they
are unable to receive any more cars for
the present
Supt Eaton Is in Charge
The new superintendent C L Eaton
was on hand Sunday morning to greet
his subordinate officials of the McCook
division and to assume the reigns of
government resigned by Van O English
who has returned to his former and old
home in Aurora Nebraska and it is
said will engage in private bnsiness
Mr Eaton is regarded in some Bur
lington circles as a coming man and on
the McCook division will have ample
opportunity to win his spurs He has
already created a favorable impression
upon those who have come in contact
with him in business and socially The
Tribune hopes his reign may be long
and successful

Injured in an Accident
Miss Lillian ODonnell and Mr Oviett
Kellogg were victims of n accident at
j Stratton Sunday last of quite painful
and severe particulars They were out
driving when a break down in harness
or vehicle caused the horses to run
away Both were violently thrown
from the buggy Miss ODonnell fell on
her forehead and was rendered un
conscious for two hours Her injuries
are quite seyere and she is still compell
ed to remain at home in Stratton Mr
Kelloggs injuries were of a minor nature
Miss Genevieve Feeny and Miss Mae
ODonnell were with Miss Lillian in
Stratton to visit at the ODonnell home
over Sunday but they were in another
vehicle and escaped the catastrophe
which overtook the others
Disperse the Jail Loafers
It is no uncommon sight any day to
see individuals male and female young
and adult loafing about the county jail
windows and engaging in conversation
with the prisoners It seems to The
Tribune that this is so palpably wrong
from every point of view that the auth
orities would promptly put a stop to this
practice All persons whomsoever should
be prohibited access to those windows
and any one found loafing there and
talking to the prisoners should be ar
rested and fined Certainly no one
should be permitted to talk to prisoners
except those legally entitled so to do
and then only in the presence of officers
County Central Committee Meets
The Republican county central com
mittee met in McCook Wednesday and
transacted an amount of regular busi
ness being pretty well attended by com
mitteemen from all over the county
Chairman Skalla presiding It was de
veloped that the political affairs of the
county were in very promising condi
tion with practically no opposition to
the good ticket placed in the field by the
Republican party

or less with their instruments not work
