Mrs Otto Webber has gone to Denver
for a short stay with friends
A short but severe electrical storm
visited this place Wednesday about 3
oclock in the morning Lightning
struck a large tree in the yard of Char
lie Hoag splintering it from top to bot
torn and gave Mr Hoag quite a shock
as he was at that moment trying to close
a window near by
Cards are just now out announcing
the marriage of Mr Clark Hedges and
Mies Minnette McCool which occurred
June 7 at the home of the county judge
This was a complete surprise to their
many friends here as they were secretly
married while on their way to McCook
Mrs Hedges nee McCool took the
train for Cripple Creek as had been pre
viously planned since which time she
has been spending the summer Both
these young people are highly respected
Mrs Hedges being a popular teacher in
our town and county and the groom a
successful farmer
Among those who went to attend the
grand encampment at Denver were the

The death of Francis Sipe Monday
afternoon gave a sudden pang of sorrow
to every one in Bartley His father
James Sipe is manager of the Duff eleva
tor at this place and was loading a car
kwith wheat when his son Francis fell in
to a bin and was suffocated in the grain
which soon covered him It was about
twenty minutes before he was taken out
of the bin and he was then dead The
funeral was preached in the M E
church Tuesday afternoon by Rev
Kirby Everyone deeply sympathizes
with the mourning family

Day Baptists when they were an order
and dates back a century and a half
It is of great historic interest but has
fallen into declay since the decline of
the orders by which it was once in
habited

Depredations of Tor CoyoteSe
Citizens of McMunen and adjoining
counties of Texas are in a state of ter
ror because of the depredations of
coyotes which are killing scores of
cattle Worse than that the slinking
brutes are spreading hydrophobia
amng the stock A man living in Til
den was bitten by an infected colt and
died in a few days Ways and means
of getting rid of the pests are being
considered

There is no investment of a few dol
lars which will pay so large dividends of
pleasure and profit and increased know
ledge as a visit to the Nebraska fair at
Licnoln September 4th to 8th The rail
road faro is one fare for the round trip

time of the year when tho harvost is
gathered or in sight the opportunity to
visit the capital city and the public in
stitutions there located among them
the university experiment station and
state farm capitol building asylum
penitentiary also Wesleyan University
Union College and Cotner University
At the state fair will be gathered for
inspection comparison and competition
the products and live stock from our
farms the handwork of our homes in
art and needle work models and ideals
in educational lines and a great wealth
of exhibits in farm implements farm
machinery buggies carriages and
wagons
At no place in the state at no time in
the year is it possible to see so much
that is useful on the farm or in the
house so much that adds to our pleas
ure and comfort as at tho state fair In
addition to all these things are the
people themselves representatives from
every county and section of the state
The most interesting study of all is the
study of mankind In 1901 there were
80343 admissions to the state fair It
is believed the 90000 mark will
this year
The great aim and object of the state
fair management is that each and every
visitor shall return home pleased and
satisfied with the trip and that no feat
ure of the fair shall be of a questionable
or of objectionable nature Tho State
