for the reason that very many of the
horses referred to come from South wes
tern Nobrnsku And again Mr Tillitt
was for a while in the livery and sales
business in McCook
George Tillitt returned the first of
the week from the northeast corner of
the county and over in Nebraska where
ho has been buying horses He shipped
a car load from Hcrndon last Sunday
night It may bo a surprise to some
people to know that Tillitt Blackburn
ranked second last year in tho United
States in the number of horses shipped
and amount paid for samo among the
individual buyers The only firm that
excelled them was one that employes
from six to fifteen men as buyers all the
time As Mr Tillitt buys most of the
stock shipped by Blackburn he easily
ranks as first of the horse buyers of the
nation last year Tillitt Blackburn
paid tho farmers of Northwest Kansas
over 100000 and to March 10th of this
year the total amount paid out was 17
000 It will be seen by the figures that
the prosperity of tho western farmer
does not always depend on the number
of bushels of wheat he has in tho gran
ary
High Price For Hay
Wednesday in County Judge Moores
court it cost Frank Peackol 1705 for
failing to distinguish between his own
hay and hay owned by G W Predmore
The fine was 1000 there was 3 for
restitution of prosperity and 405 in
costs
Predmore had been missing hay from
the Blatt barn where he keeps his
horses when in town Monday he
phiced a qnantity of confotti paper in
tho hay he put in the barn Tuesday
morning tho hay was gone and the con
fetti easily located the hay in a barn
just across the alley
The arrest and fine followed
