Genl Supt H C Byram Visits Lincoln
II C Byram tho newly appointed
general superintendent of this district
of tho Burlington spent yesterday in
Lincoln will bo in the city today and
will probnbly spend sevoral days travel
ing over the lines soon to be placed under
his control It is understood that ho
will tako charge of the Lincoln district
probably including tho Liucolu Wymoro
nnd McCook divisions Tho territory
division has not been officially announ
ced but it is supposed from what has
been said that his territory will include
these three divisions and that ho will
have charge ever Superintendents Big
noil Rodgors and Campbell
Mr Byram spent the day yesterday
inspecting tho Lincoln plant of the Bur
lington He visited tho round house
the machine shops inspected the mo
tive power made tho acquaintance of
tho foremen of the various departments
and of Lincoln Burlington men Ho put
in a busy day going from one place to
another asking questions with rapid
fire speed apparently absorbing rapidly
and quickly all tho information desired
and impressing the men as a gentleman
of much power and acumen
It was said yesterday that Mr Calvert
will return to tho city today and that
soon after his return ho and Mr Byram
will take a trip over tho lines composing
Mr Byrams new district With Mr
Calvert he will travel over the road for
the purpose of becoming personally ac
quainted with tho many men in charge
of Burlington interests
Mr Byram impressed the men he met
as a man of gieat power familiar with
every dotail of railroading quick in ac
tion and capable of coping with any
problem or emergency presented We
will know him better after awhile said
ono of tho Burlington men after meeting
him but we all admit that the first im
pression is a good one
It is said to be a considerable task to
arrange the management of tho lines
west of the river into two divisions
Wore Mr Byram to take charge of all
the territory controlled now by Mr Cal
vert it would be a small task to make
the change As it is with two general
superintendents west of tho river many
changes must be made in
and these details are now being
figured out in General Holdreges office
Jt is said that tho force in MrIIoldreges
office at Omaha may be increased be
cause of tho larger number of reports
that will be sent to him from the two
divisions
It is said that Mr Rhodes will have
charge of the Alliance and Sheridan
divisions One rumor has it that he will
maintain his residence in Lincoln al
though his official headquarters may be
in Alliance This has not been announ
ced however It has been rumored that
he may secure as a part of his territory
some of tho lines of tho western division
but that is not certain
Of Mr Byram it is said He began
railroading in his youth on the eastern
lines of the Burlington From the Bur
lington he went to the Great Northern
becoming general superintendent of the
Montana division of that road When
J F Stevens went from the Great
Northern to the Rock Island as a vice
president he took Mr Byram with him
Not a great while ago there was a rovolu
tion in the management of the Rock Is
land road and Mr Stevens and Mr By
ram awoke one morning to find them
selves going over the official transom
Then MrByram went back to the Great
Northern road and he comes directly
from the Great Northern to Jim Hills
Burlington
He is about forty five years old a
practical man in every detail of railroad
ing and it is said that he is considered
as a favorite of the Hill management
The division of the trans Missouri system
is not made just at this time because
Mr Calvert is going out it is said
More than four thousand miles of road
is too much for any ono man and con
sideration of this division of the lines
was up some time before the promotion
of Mr Calvert Lincoln Journal Tues
