G W Rhodes assistant genornl super
intendent of the lines west of the river
will bo appointed general superintendent
of a district to be created consisting of
the- western half of the McCook division
the Alliance division and the Sheridan
division The headquarters of this dis
trict will probably bo at Alliance It is
not announced when this arrangement
will take effect In fact no oilicial an
nouncement has been made Tho east
ern district of tho trans Missouri lines
will be composed of tho Lincoln Wymore
and eastern half of tho McCook district
and will be managed from Lincoln A
now man said to bo schooled in Hill
management and Hill ideas of economy
is to take charge of tho eastern district
with headquarters in Lincoln The iden
tity of tho man who is to manage tho
eastorn district may not bo announced
for several days although it is under
stood that he has been selected

the promotion offered Mr Calvert is
much more important than was at first
intimated It is now claimed that he is
to be chief engineer of the entire system
with headquarters in Chicago Whether
he will maintain his residence in Lin

stockyards fence were burned
The Kansas City Star is authority for
the statement that the Burlington rail
road has completed plans for the expen
diture of 81000000 in the development
of holdings in Clay county Missouri

will build many miles of tracks and
switches and use them to store freight
cars and for general yards These im
provements are in line with a plan to
divert St Paul and Minneapolis wheat
from the eastern seaboard to the gulf by
way of Kansas City which may be ac
complished when the Burlington com
pletes its proposed line from Kansas
City south

Win Hold on Old Grounds
It being rumored that the county fair
next week was to partake somewhat of
the nature of a street fair and was to be
held just adjoining Indianola on the
east the county commissioners this
-week conferred with the people of In
dianola and officers of the association
about the matter with the result that
the officers decided to hold the fair on
the old grounds which we understand
are not in apple pie order but will be
placed in as good condition as possible
in the limited time remaining The
