audience and the affair passed off with every evi dence of pleasure to those present Mr H E Bradford director the members of the normal and those from outside who assisted are each and all to be congratulated upon the artistic results achieved The chorus numbers were well render ed showing happily the work being accomplished in the music department of the normal school The selections were strong tuneful nnd called forth volume nnd expression opening with the Star Spangled Banner and closing with the stirring Soldiers Chorus from Faust The ladies chorus was simple but effective and melodious The piano duet by Misses Blanche McCarl and Louise Pitney was a delight ful selection by Keler Bola and its artis tic rendering was well received Pinsutis Spring Song as given by Misses Blancho and Ida McCarl Mr S B McLlean and Mr J R- McCarl was accorded marked and hearty evidences of approval One of the sweetest and most artistic efforts of the evening was Miss Hazel Hares violin Wednesday July 29th was one of the most harmonious conventions ever held in this county where so many important offices have sought nominations A large proportion of the delegates were in attendance and the greatest interest and enthusiasm were manifested Most of the nomina tions were made by acclamation and even in those cases where more than one name was presented for an office the utmost good feeling and harmony pre vailed and in each instance the success ful candidate was made the unanimous choice of the convention Tho meeting was called to order by H W Keyes By a vote of 81 to 26 fl H Berry was chosen temporary chairman and Frank Moore was unanimously se 1 lected as the temporary secretary Upon the call of precincts the credentials of the several delegations were delivered to the secretary and there being no con- tests the convention proceeded at once with the usual business F M Rathbun Dr J E Hathorn and W A McCool were appointed a committee on resolutions The nominations for the different of fices vproceeded without incident there being but one name presented for each until the call fornominations for county surveyor developed the first ripple of ex citement The names of James Williams andTacob Korb lioth of Bondville pre cinct were presentedto the convention Theformer by a -vote of 85 to 32 re ceived the nomination v Charles Skalla of Bondville precinct and F P Eno of Beaver precinct were candidates for county assessor Mr Eno was the choice of tho convention by a vote of 76 to 45 - Thedelegates from the precincts com prising the Second commissioner district bya wteof 16 to li selected j3amuel Precier of Alliance precinct over Elias Canagaof Redwillow precinct to repre sent that portion of the county on the county board and their selection was endorsed by the convention A committee consisting of J EKelley J W Dolan and A Barnett was ap pointed by the chairman to name the delegates to the state convention The only real conflict came over the endorsement of a candidate for district judge and the selection of delegates to the judicial convention W A McCool moved that each of Redwillow countys three candidates H W Keyes W R Starr and C E Eldred be permitted to choose three delegates and that the chairman of the convention appoint the other two members of the delegation F M Rathbun suggested by way of amendment that the convention indi cate its preference among the local can didates and that the candidate so chosen be allowed to select the delegates to the judicial convention The motion and the amendment provoked considerable discussion but on a viva voce vote the motion was finally adopted as amended The result of the balloting developed Mr Eldreds overwhelming strength The vote stood as follows C E Eldred 80 H W Keyes 26 W R Starr 15 When the convention proceeded to ef fect a permanent organization L B Corbin was the successful aspirant over H H Berry for the chairmanship of the county central committee The chair man being empowered to select the sec retary and treasurer of this body named Frank Moore and W A Dolan the pres ent incumbents for the respective posi tions The county central committee was au thorized to fill
