Mr and Mrs I S Walker received a
telegram Wednesday noon that their
residence in Bison Oklahoma had been
struck by lightning that morning and
together with all their household goods
had been burned to the ground
Monday morning at about two oclock
the Commercial hotel was discovered to
be on fire The alarm was quickly
given and the occupants of the burning
building luckily escaped without injury
The fire had acquired such headway be
fore being discovered that all efforts to
to extinguish the flames were futile and
in a very short time the building to
gether with all its furnishings was in
ashes The bucket brigade did some
heroic work and deserve much credit
for the manner in wbich they fought the
flames Owing to the fact that the
night was still the fire was prevented
from spreading Had there been a high
wind it would have been next to impo3
sible to have saved the buildings on the
opposite side of the street as most of
them are frame buildings and being
very dry would have ignited easily The
building adjoining the hotel on the north
is the brick occupied by Andy Lord
who carries a stock of hardware Prac
tically no damage was done to this build
ing or its stock except the breaking of
the plate glass in front by the intense
heat The hotel was owned and man
aged by F A Strockey who sustained a
loss of at least 3000 which is only
partially covered by insurance The
origin of the fire is unknown but occur
ring at that unusual hour of the night
is the subject of considerable specula
