prominently mentioned Of course it is early and delegations havo not yet been selected to the county con vention from tho several precincts and there is the possibility of changes and the addition of new candidates to the race for nominations but wo give the case as it now stands and modifications and amendments will be submitted as they develop Wont Be Misunderstood Lest there may be a misunderstand ing as to its attitude in the district judgeship matter The Bartley Inter Ocean thus early takes firm and unmis takablo ground and avows its allegiance to the candidacy of Mayor Charles E Eldred the present county attorney of Red Willow county for that high place in the following language It appears that not a few after read ing the item in Dr Browns column last week touching upon the district judge ship have taken it for granted that The Inter Ocean is in favor of Mr II W Keyes of Indianola for the position In order that there may be no misunder standing upon the matter we will state that this paper is in its shirt sleeves for lion C E Eldred of McCook for district judge W hile the writer has not the pleasure of a personal acquaint ance with Mr Keyes wo believe him to be a gentleman of spotless character and one of whom the opposition could find no fault should he be nominated however Mr Eldred is a gentleman pos sessing the same admirable qualities is equally versed in legal lore and we be lieve enjoys a larger acquaintance over the district than Mr Keyes a fact which must be considered at all times by any party That Mr Eldred would make an exceptionally strong candidate in his own county is witnessed by tho fact that in the last election he ran far and away ahead of any other man on the ticket Tho Cambridge Clarion a representative paper of our sister county of Furnas in speaking some months since ofa successor to G W Norris to fill tho unexpired term said Mr Eldred was preeminently the man for the posi tion both from his own ability to fill the office and his wide acquaintance among the voters of the district Should the nomination fall to Red Willow coun ty our first preference is Mr Eldred Should he not knock the persimmon we are for Mr
