says The prospect of the construction of a portion of the Rock Island railroad through southern Ne braska and northern Kansas to connect the lines of this state and the main line to Chicago from Council Bluffs with the southern branch ofjthe system are bright er now than for many years The mat ter has been suggested to the managers of the railroad many times by the Oma ha Commercial club and other business organizations of the state whoso mem bers desire to roach the trade in Kansas and since the Rock Island has projected its road into Mexico with a probable southwestern outlet to the Pacific coast the connection between the northern and southern divisions of the road is still more desirable Supt Cable of the southern division was in Omaha this week and Secretary Utt of the Commer cial club took the matter up with him showing the advantage which the road would derive through the construction of a comparatively short line which would connect the two systems west of the Missouri river While nothing defi 1 nito was said by tho superintendent he gave the club to understand that the matter would be presented to the direc tors of the company for their considera tion A customer of
