Kansas was arrested tried and con
victed over a ypar ago for blowing open
the vault of the treasury of Rawlins
county and robbing it of over 1700
He was convicted on purely circum
stantial evidence and appealed his case
to the supreme court and it was sent
back to the district court for a new trial
and fixed his bond at 10000
A short time ago the county attorney
of Rawlins count received a letter stat
ing that for a consideration the writer
would furnish clues for robberies that
had been committed in the county The
letter was unsigned and was placed in
the hands of a detective who traced it to

Mrs Mario Nowsomo living at Ottawa
Kansas and onco a rosidontof Atwood
Mrs Nowsome went from Ottawv to
Iola and thence to Oklahoma City
Oklahoma When Wilson found that
Mrs Newsome was at Oklahoma Uicy
he leaves Atwood and poos to hor In
the meantime the whereabouts of tho
pair is well known and they are shad
owed and a confession obtained from
Mrs Nowsomo Both parties wero ar
rested and brought back to Kansas by
requisition papers from Governor Baily
Wilson and Mrs Nowsome mado a
legal fight through the courts to keep
from coming to Kansas and were not
successful Sheriff Lucas of Topoka
and Mahoney of Atwood brought the
pair to Rawlins county and Wilson is in
jail and the woman strongly guarded by
officers
Some time prior to tho looting of tho
county treasury at Atwood robberies
had been committed postofflces at
Herndon and Atwood broken open and
robbed stores pilfored money dniw6rs
relieved of their contents and citizens
hold up by masked footpads on the
highway and robbed in bandit stylo A
hue and cry was started to fasten the
perpetration of this deviltry on the
Shelly boys who had lately been par
doned from the United States prison at
Fort Leavenworth and who lived ten
miles northwest of Atwood
It was tho samo old story of fjordor
cunning and ruffianism of white men
perpetrating crimes and throwing tne
suspicion on Indians
As time went on the belief grew that
a well organized gang had perpetrated
these crimes and that the Shelly boys
had nothing to do with tho deviltry
It is expected that sensational devel
opments will soon bo unearthed and tho
mysterious robberies and depredation
that have so long been shrouded in dark
ness will be cleared up ana tne guilty
parties brought to justice
