not know the difference between the very best seed and that which is not so good Poor seed is a bad investment because if it makes a difference of only a few bushels to the acre it is a loss of many dollars Some of the most inter esting experiments of recent years have been the work of breeding better seed and improving it just the same as live stock has been improved by intelligent breeding The Twentieth Century Farmer is publishing a most interesting series of articles by Thomas L Lyon of the Ne braska Agricultural Experiment station on breeding wheat and corn These and other articles along county people had already organized a county association Mr Solomon of the committee declined to unite in tho report for that reason Tho question of organizing a county or a district association was thus projected into the convention There wore strong advocates of each but it was finally de cided for tho present to organize as a county with the idea of branching out later into a district organization President Barnett of the Southwest Nebraska Industrial association read some interesting facts from a Loveland Colorado letter about the sugar beet industry real estate values etc Perhaps no one man left so strong an impress on the meeting as did President Leavitt of the Ames factory His state ment that on the year following tho cul tivation of a total of 5000 acres of sugar beets in the Republican Valley he would build a factory of 500-tons-per-day capa city in tho valley was met with a demon stration He also stated that if the citizens of McCook would plant 400 ho would plant the remaining 100 to make a 500 acre station here Thk Tribune has no doubt but that this acreage will be largely exceeded this year As to the factory however ho advised making haste slowly but making permanent and sure progress in the industry noting the fact which all conservative citizens will appreciate that one year of failure will do more damage to the industry than ought else He1 offered the services of his practical and expert men of tho Standard factory to assist local growers Noted the need of developing our irri gation possibilities Called attention to the necessity of rotation of crops Gave assurances of assisting succesfully in the help question answering many questions and in many ways adding to the intorest of tho meeting in his frank and prompt businesslike manner Rev
