"The Eternal God is thy refuge , and
underneath are the everlasting arms. "

held at the South McCook church was
led by Mrs. E. J. Vivian. An interest
ing discussion was participated in by
each present.

The sermon on "Temperance" of last
Sunday evening was well executed and
very commendable. May we abide by
such teachings.
* *
A certain prominent gentleman , who
is the general freight agent of a large
railroad , is very much opposed to the
use of cigarettes , and announces that
hereafter he will not employ any young
man who has formed the habit of smok
ing these injurious little articles. He
employes many young men and has
therefore a fine opportunity of observing
the difference between smokers and non-
smokers. These "are his reasons for de
ciding to get rid of all cigarette fiends.
He says : "Among the 200 in 1113 * service ,
thirty-two are cigarette fiends. Eighty-
five per cent of the mistakes occurring in
the office are traceable to the thirty-two
smokers. They fall behind with their
work , and when transferred to other
desks , which other men who do not
smoke handle easily , thev immediately
get along just as badly , showing that it
is not the amount of work , but the indo
lence of the performer. The smokers
average "two days off" from work per
month , while the non-smokers average
only one-half day in the same time.
The natural conclusion is that the
thirty-two young men are holding posi
tions deserved by better men. "
The pain of a burn or scald is almost
instantly relieved by applying Chamber
lain's Pain Balm. It also heals the in-
iured parts more quickly than any other

severe does not leave a scar. For sale
