WOULD Professor LaughHu have
had our troops retire before the
advance of an ambitious , bribe-
taking , cruel adventurer , or what
course would he Lave pursued ?
He proposes none. He simply in
dulges in some disgraceful , unpat
riotic , treasonable declarations like
these : "The flag there does not
protect those over whom it floats.
It is there the emblem of tyranny
and butchery. " It is a striking
evidence of the toleration , not to
say license , which is granted to
free speech in this country when
a man connected with one of the
great universities of the coun
try can stand before an audience
and utter such shameful and dis
graceful slander of his own coun
try , and offer such insult to the
flag which protects him and all
others like him in the liberties
which they abuse. Professor
Laughlin knows as well as he
knows that the flag is in the Phil
ippiues , that it is there not as the
emblem of tyranny and butchery
that it does "protect those eve
whom it floats , " and that it wil
continue to do so. Minneapolis

track of a tornado , was swept across

miles , destroying everything in its
path. The only lives lost as far

coming and lan to a pasture to re

A large number of farm houses
were destroyed and the families
escaped by seeking refuge beyond
the track of the storm. . .The path

Whooping Cough.
I had a little boy who was nearly dead
from an attack of whooping cough. My
neighbors recommended Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy. I did not think that
any medicine would help him , but after
giving him a few doses of that remedy
I noticed an improvement , and one
bottle cured him entirely. It is the
best cough medicine I ever had in the
house. J. L Moore , South Burgetts-
