\V. H. Starks is on the sick-list , this
week.
Supt. Campbell is having his residence
painted , this week.
Mrf. C. C. Scnnlun was up from Hast
ings to attend the funeral of Will Mc-
Manigal.
Brakeman C. V. Kerr is in Akron
working temporarily in place of Switch
man J.V. . Gerringer , who is on the
sick-list , this week.
The tenth annual repprt of the Ilur-
lington voluntary relief has just been
published , containing report of the
operations of the department for the
fiscal year ending December 31 , 1898.
The report shows a total balance in the
treasury up to December 31 , 1898 , of
$319,283 93 , while the known and esti
mated liabilities up to the same date are
$104,325 48 This leaves an estimated
surplus of $214,95845 During the year
benefits to the amount of $ i 18,034.84 for
sickness and $139.532.86 for accidents
have been paid. The oiganization in
creased 1,097 in membership during 1898
and at the close of the year had a total
membership of 16.325.
COLEMAN.
Harry and Mabel Wales attended
church in McCook , last Sunday evening.
Uncle Billy is so fond of custard pies
that he proposes raising them by cross-
iug sugar beets with egg plant and milk
weed.
Married at the home of the bride's
parents , Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Cole , by
the Rev. G. H. May field on April gth ,
Mr. William S. Bixler and Miss Alice L.
Cole. Mr. Bixler came to this township
when a. little boy. Here he developed
into rugged physical manhood by hard
labor on the farm. He received a good
education by attending the graded
schools in McCook. In the fall of 1896
he rented land and began working for
himself. Last 3-ear he had 1800 bushels
of wheat for his share and a few weeks
ago he bought a fine quarter of improved
land. He is one of the sterling , enter
prising j'oung farmers of this township
Miss Alice Cole is the accomplished and
lovable daughter of M. H. Cole and wife
of this precinct. She is one of those un
selfish , kind-hearted girls who believe
in helping mother , and so she was al
ways at home taking mother's burdens
on her own 3'oungshoulders. . To her
there was 110 place like home. When
we meet young people like these we just
want to take off our cap to them. Their
acquaintances wish them a long , happy
and prosperous life here and a home in
the "sweet by and by. " It was a quiet
wedding , attended only by the families
of the contracting parties. They have
already begun house-keeping.
CALL FOR BIDS.
Bids will be received at the office of the
Mayor in the City of McCook , Nebraska , up
to 7 o'clock , p. m. , April 24th , 1899 , for the
sale of the bonds of said city , to-wit : Bonds
in the sum ot 1,500 , to be issued in a series of
$500 each , to bear interest at the rate of 6 per
cent per annum , payable annually on the first
day of May of each year ; said bonds to mature
in twenty years from the date thereof.
The city reserves the right to reject any or

ORDINANCE NO. 82.
An Ordinance to authorize and empower
the Mayor and City Council of the City of
McCook , Red Willow County , Nebraska , to
issue certain bonds of the City and provide
for the payment of the interest and principal
of said bonds when due.
Be it Ordained by the Mayor and Council
of McCook , Red Willow County , Nebraska :
SECTION I. The Mayor and City Council
of the City of McCook , Red Willow County ,
Nebraska , are authorized and empowered to
issue bonds of the City of McCook , County
Seat of Red Willow County , Nebraska , to be
known as "Court House Bonds" in the sum of
$1,500 , to aid the County of Red Willow , in
the State of Nebraska , to construct and fur
nish a county court house within the corpor
ate limits of the City of McCook.
Said bonds to be dated May 1st , 1899 , and
mature on the first day of May , 1919 , and bear
interest at the rate of 6 per centum from date
of issue until paid ; the principal and interest
to be paid at the financial agency for the
State of Nebraska , in the City of New York ;
to be issued in a series of three bonds of
$500.00 each , with interest coupons attached
numbered from I to 20 , inclusive , signed by
the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk ,
with seal of the City thereto.
SECTION 2. 1 he Mayor and City Council
of the City of McCook shall annually , at the
time required by law for making estimates for
levy of taxes for city purposesand in addition
tlu reto , levy a tax upon the taxable property ,
both real and personal , within the corporate
limits of the City of McCook , to create a sink
ing fund sufficient to pay said bonds and the
interest thereon when the same becomes due.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance to take effect
and be in force from and after its passage , ap
proval and publication. *

tion to make final proof in support of his

at McCook , Nebraska , on Saturday , April 29 ,

In the District Court of Red Willow Coun
ty , State of Nebraska. In the matter of the
estate of Joseph Williams , deceased.
The cause came on foi heating upon the
petition of Charles H. Boyle , administrator of
the estate of Joseph Williams , deceased , pray
ing for license to sell the southeast quarter ,
section twenty , and the northwest quarter
of the southwest quarter and the southwest
quarter of the northwest quarter , section
twenty-one , all in- township two , range
thirty , in Red Willow county , state of Neb
raska , or a sufficient amount of the s-ame to
bring the sum of 5500 for the payment of debts
with the interest thereon allowed against said
estate and the costs of administration , there
not being sufficient personal property to pay
the said debts , interest and expenses.
It is therefore ordered that all persons in
terested in .said estate appear before me at
McCook , on the l6th day of May , 1890. at ten
o'clock , a. m. , in court room , to show cause
why a license should not be granted to said
administrator to sell so much of the above de
scribed real estate of said deceased as shall
be necessary to pay said debts , interest and

William Brumcr , Hannah Brumer and The
Western Farm Mortgage Tiust Company , de
fendants , will take notice that John B. Ale-
serve , plaintiff , has filed his petition in the
District Court of Red Willow county. Nebras
ka , against the above named defendants , the
object and prayer of which are to foreclose a
certain mortgage executed July 14 , iSSS , by
the defendants William Brumer and Hannah
Brumer to The Western Farm Alortgage
Trust Company , and afterwards duly assigned
to the plaintiff , upon the following described
real estate , to-wit : the south half of the north
east quarter and the north half of the south
east quarter of section fifteen , in township
two , north , in range twenty-nine , west of the
6th p. m. Said mortgage being executed to
secure the payment of the one principal note
of the said William and Hannah Brumer , for
the sum of $800.00 , due July i , 1893. and ten
interest notes attached to said principal note ,
for the sum of $28 oo each , and maturing re
spectively on the first days of January and
July , 1889,1890,1891,1892 and 1893. There is
now due on said notes and mortgage , includ
ing the amount paid as taxes on said premises ,
the sum of § 952.42 , with interest thereon , at
the rate of ten per cent per annum , on $28.00
thereof , from January 1,1892 ; on $2800 thereof ,
from July 1,1892 ; on $2800 thereof , from Jan
uary i , 1893 ; on $828.00 thereof , from July I ,
1893 , and on $40.42 thereof , from March 27 ,
1899 , and plaintiff prays for a decree that the
defendants be required to nay the same or
that said premises may be sold to satisfy said
amounts , with interest and cost of suit.
You are required to answer said petition on
or before Monday , the I5th day of May , 1899.
