The new time card did not give Hold rege as a stopping point and on last Thursday No. 1 did not stop there at all , much to the surprise and humiliation of the Holdregeites. The oversight was at once corrected , and commencing with- last Friday all trains now stop there and register. Switchman W. C. No complaint of sameness aud lack of originality ! But , really , Miss Antaltruria , did } tou find no men who trod the Utopian paths and whose wives would have amounted to very little but for the loud bu gle their husbands sounded in their behalf ? Did you find no husbands whose narrow minds could not wander far from the smartest children a man ever owned. You ' ve heard him dis course on the wonderful intellect of the baby and of his wife's ca pacity as a cook. Perhaps in his conceit he accredited himself with the wondrously smart family , but never mind , so far as Ave are con cerned we adore him , and we would willingly listen all night to his tales of how baby got through teething. But perhaps this nar row-minded man does not belong in Utopia. Please locate him , Miss Antaltruria. You wont find many of him. Men are too broadminded - minded to run on such a hobby as wife and babies. Surprise birthday dinners are the fashion , this month. This time Jacob Bandel was the sur prised man. There was a large party of the neighbors present and from Indianola Henry Powell and wife and E. S. Hill and wife and daughter were present. Mr. Ban- del was the recipient of many use ful and beautiful gifts , among them being a handsome rocking chair from Mrs. Bandel , a pretty lamp from Mrs. A. Clark of McCook , a book from Mrs. Hill , a picture from Mrs. Longnecker , a paper holder , more pictures aud other gifts from Mrs. Neel , Mrs. Fred Bandel , Mrs. Will Bandel and others. The dinner is not to be described ; it is simply impossible. It was a matter of some regret to us that we could not at least taste of all the good things , but even a gourmand must desist where such abundance is. Ten years ago many of the same friends had joined Mr. Bandel in a similar dinner in the old sod house which has given place to the tasty new frame building. "We were more crowded then but just as merry , still we all felt glad that our host and hostess now possessed the comforts of the more splendid home. Beautiful homes will not be rare in this section some day. PROSPECT PARK. B. M. Wade is still wrestling with the grip. Oscar Hammond is drilling in wheat , this week.
