They have a brand new daughter at
James Powell's.
Mrs. E. Benjamin is entertaining her
mother from Riverton.
President Roberts of the great Penn
sylvania railroad system is dead.
The Burlington expects to commence
work on its Omaba depot , March 1st.
Carl Berry this week moved into Mrs.
Vina Wood's house on Madison street.
A new floor is being put down in the
east office room upstairs in the depot
building.
Roadmaster Josselyn was up from Or
leans , fore end of the week , on business
of the company.
H. C. Smith , round house foreman , is
confined to his home by a touch of the
prevailing grip.
Mrs. B. C. Monpleasure is entertain
ing her sister who arrived from Oberlin ,
close of past week.
Louis Probst entered upon his duties
as message boy for the Western Union
here , last Friday morning.

Brakeman W. S. Tomlinson took his
run again , Monday , after a lay-off of a
number of trips , on the sick-list.
Trainmaster Kenyon and Chief Dis
patcher Forbes were in Hastings , on
company business , Thursday.
Josie Mullen , who has been teaching
up in the Sheridan , Wyoming , country ,
arrived home , last of the past week.

Brakeman Otto Ballew and William
McCarl , who have been on the relief for
a number of weeks , went to work on
\ -mrsday.
It was only 43 degree below zero at
Sheridan , last week , and it is asseverated
that the weather clerk "never turned a
hair" in the effort.
W. T. Wooten. wants to especially
thank his neighbors who assisted during
the fire that recently destroyed his home
and most of its contents.
Charles McManigal is now operator at
Brush , Colorado. He went up there , end
of last week. May success be his portion
tion in his new field of labor.
McCook switch engine 171 was sent to
Havelock , last Saturday , for new tires ,
new set flues and general overhauling.
Engine 141 is being used in its place.
The Philadelphia and Reading rail
road has already spent $1,000,000 in set
tling claims for lives lost in the terrible
Atlantic City accident of last summer.
Earl Gooding , formerly of the supply
department , has received a' promotion ,
and can now be found with Charlie Em
erson's gang of "car tinks" . His place
in the store hou = e has been taken by
Roy Zint.
The Steam Laundry , located at the oil
house , is now in full blast , and your pat
ronage is solicited. White shirts and
underclothing a specialty. Charges reas-

Frank Harris left for Grand Island ,
Monday night , to attend a meeting of
the Nebraska head camp of Modern
Woodmen , that convened there , first of
this week. Frank is getting to be an
insurance expert and will no doubt gather
much valuable insurance knowledge that
will be of value to our own order , the
Star of Jupiter.

Miller , which were to have been heard

Mrs. M. J. Utter has applied for a life
estate and dowtr in the property of her
deceased husband. The ca-e will be
heard , March 4th.
An appeal to the district court has
been taken by A brain Peters in the re
plevin suit won against him by T. C.
