NORTH DIVIDE. *
Potatoes are about as scarce an article
hereabout as any thing \\e know of.
Otuer Hale has been busy the past few
weeks sowing about soacres to fall wheat.
Dan Cushen will occupy the Goheen
place and has been getting things in
readiness for the winter.
Another correspondent has blossomed
out.from thi" * precinct. We have more
writers now than news to write about.
Tony Steltzer took a short lay off from
clerking hrhind the plow so as to be in
good trim for the foot races at Iwlianola
during the week
Jack Cahhen is attending school in
McCpok again this term. Jack is a clever
lad and no place fits him so well just now
as the school room.
Seven gallons of sorghum from ahoul
as many loads of that article was the
share one of the patrons of the sugar
works got for his time and trouble.
A large wolf trap disappeared from
this place in a fast hurry one morning
last week. Anyone meeting with a coy.
? ote thus decorated , kindly head him this
way.

• Ed. Stewart is up from Harlan county
visiting relatives and acquaintances.
Mrs.V. . X. Johnson will accompany him
on his return ' and sojourn for a brief
while in the vicinity of their old home
near Alma.
Some yokel has placed a large , neatty
lettered sign upon the gate post near the
Box Elder church , and which reads :
"Cats Wanted" . No one seems to know
who would want or need cats at a gate
so it looks like the doings of some dum
kupf.
A team of horses belonging to William
Hyatt was drowned in the -AVillow , last
Thursday. Mr. Hyatt was fcngaged in
hauling driftwood from the bottom , and
it appears that after his wagon was heav
ily loaded the horses became unmanage
able and backed into the stream.
Rev. Vivian and Chas. Masters took a
trip overland to Nickerson county , Kan
sas , to be gone a week or so. Mr. Vivian
goes mainly for a vacation and to visit
a sister whom he has notseen for several
years. Charle } ' being a good hand with
shootin' irons , can slay rabbits and
quails along the way and make a good
companion for the littie minister.
We were not correctly informed as to
the taffy pulling which should have taken -
en place on a recent evening up at Dick
Moore's , and which was to have been for
the benefit of the church. A misunder
standing as to the time and location
caused a general gee haw among those
who had the business in tow , so the
church and another evening were decid-
ed upon.
A right jolly crowd was present at the
Itox Elder church on last Thursda3'even-
ing in response to a general 'invite' to
drop in and take tea with the preacher.
There was music and singing in abund-
ance , after which Rev. Vivian made a
few remarks in his happiest manner ,
Mrs Betts of Hawarden. 'Iowa , gave a
select reading which for real merit was
irreproachable. Thus a delightful even
ing was spent , a toothsome lunch par-
taken of and plenty of taffy for every-
bed } ' there.
INJORTH COLEMAN.
Ben Summers was in our part of the
precinct , Tuesday.
Miss Lulu Summers was visiting Mrs.
Epperly last Saturday and Sunday.
Rev. Vivian being at conference , there
was no preaching at Spring Creek , Sun-
day.
Married Chas. D. Hayden and Han
nah McBride , both of Lincoln precinct ,
Frontier county.
A singing school has been organized
at Coleman school house , to be taught
by Prof. Newsbaume. It will beheld on
Saturday evenings.
A moonlight spook visited a Coleman
melon patch recently. The owner saj-s
he knows it was a Republican from the
fact that he left one melon.
Grandma Shepherd and her son Taj-
lor are thinking of returning to Rose-
burg , Oregon , this winter. There seems
to be no place like that to them.
There was ice to be seen , this morning ,
as thick as common window glass. The
beautiul verdure has taken on a somber
hue , and the flowers , where are they ?
The Rebublican ladies are far more •
numerous at the campaign addresses '
than the Pop ladies. Mrs. M. L. Brown j
says , "I wish I could vote , I'd put in one
big vote for McKinley" . '
i
The census is steadily increasing , as .
there is a young postmaster at Osborn ,
Frontier count- . Its parents are happy.
A little daughter was also welcomed at
James Rvan's , September oth. '
1
There was a full house to greet Dr. ,
Harlan at Coleman school house , last :
night. He gave a straight forward sen
sible talk to which all gave strict atten
tion. The McKinley club will meet on
Monday nights hereafter. Jl l
For our part we have not felt it our
duty to find fault with the poetry from
Pleasant Ridge. Peace , peace , let us
have peace. What solid comfort there
would be in reading The Tribune if the •
golden rule were always kept in view. *

Dr. Harlan of Allen precinct. Frontier
county , expounded Republicanism at the
Spring Creek school house. Monday eve
ning. We are told that be made his
points very plain , and that he is an excel
lent speaker. After the spetiking a Mc
Kinley club was organized with about40
members from several different precincts.
The doctor spoke on Thursday night in
Coleman school house.
Last week there was an overmuch scar
city of wind , so much so that most c st
erns in this locality were empty and the
farmers had a change of occupation and
were hauling water l/y the wagon load.
The wind finally started up , the wheels
of the windmills responded and went fly
ing around , the beautiful silver , 'stream
began to flow and the htart of the farm
er was made joyous thereby.
County Supt. Carnahan visited in dist.
74 on Tuesday , the 29th. He gave an
interesting talk to the pupils. He said
that Miss Irwin is the teacher , not the
learner ; and that if the pupils would advance -
vance as they should they must come reg
ularly and study hard. When they got
to the gth grade they could go to town
school free and not have to pay like he
and Miss Irwin , did. He ga\e the school
an invitation to come down to the fair at
Indianola on Friday. He then s edaway
on his free silver tipped bicicle and was
soon out of sight. It is a pleasure to
read in the papers that the schools are
getting along so nicely over the county.

celebrated remedy is for sale by L. W. Mc-

To Subscribers of The Tribune.
Readers of The Tribune will please
remember that cash is an essential in
the publication of a paper. The pub
lisher has been very lenient during the
past few years , on account of crop fail
ures and hard times , and as a consequence >
quence many hundreds of dollars are
due 011 subscriptions. We are now com
pelled to request nil who can to call and
make settlement in full or in part. In
view of the facts , our subscribers must
feel the justice and urgency of this re
quest. The Publisher.
A few weeks ago the editor was taken with
a very severe cold that caused him to be in a
most miserable condition. It wa undoubtedly
a bad case of la grippe and recognizing it as
dangerous he took imnifdi te steps to bring
about a speedy cure. From the advertisement
of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy and the
many good recommendations included there
in , we concluded to make a first trial of the
medicine. To say that it was satisfactory in
it- results , is putting it very mildly , indeed. It
acted like magic and the result was a speedy
and permanent cure. We have no hesitancy
in recommending this excellent Cough Reme
dy to anyone afflicted with a cough or cold in
any form. The Banner of Liberty , Liberty-

incurable should read what Mr. P.E. Grisham ,
of Gaars Mills , La. , has to say on the subject ,
viz : "I have been a sufferer from chronic diar

kinds of medicine for it. At last I found a
remedy that effected a cure and that was
Chamberlain's Colic , Cholera and Diarrhoea
Remedy" . This medicine can always be de
