OUR SCHOOLS.
Erwin Hopt , of Bartley , is a member
of the high school.
Rapid progress has been made in sing.
ing since Mr. Magee has assumed the
position of choir master.
The pupils were given a full day holiday -
day , Wednesday , to give the children an
opportunity to attend the county fair.
In order to raise some money with
which to purchase some new lantern
slides , an admission fee of ten cents is
now charged to all outsiders.
The Wednesday Evening club did not
carry out the prepaied program for the
reason that many of those who had a
part in it did not get back in time from
the fair. The impromptu program consisted -
sisted of several pieces of music and a
story by Mr. Valentine.
Although the old school books have
been used until they have nearly gone
to pieces , very few new books have been
bought , this year. The contract with
the American Book Company will expire
this year and it is expected the Board
will enter into an agreement with some
other firm for all school supplies , Mr.
Valentine has promised to make a bonfire -
fire out of the worn out books when the
new supplies arrive , and this has induced
the scholars to bear with fortitude the
old books for another year ,

Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria ,
In a recent letter to the manufacturers Mr.
11' . F. Benjamin , editor of the Spectator ,
Rushford , N. Y. , says : "It may be a pleasure
to you to know the high esteem m which
Chamberlain's medicines are held by the
people of your own state , where the must be
best known. An aunt of mine who resides
at Dexter , Iowa , was about to visit me , a few
years since , and before leaving home wrote
me , asking if they were sold here , stating if
they were not she would bring a quantity with
her , as she did not want to be without tem" .
The medicines referred to are Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy , famous for its cures of colds
and croup ; Chamberlain's Pain Balm for
rheumatism , lame back , pains in the side and
chest , and Chamberlain's Colic , Cholera and

These medicines have been in constant use
in Iowa for almost a quarter of a century.
The people have learned that they are articles
of great worth and merit , and unequalled b }
