ANOTHER brutal and disgraceful
murder is reported from the bloody
Niobraw country. 't'his time it is
a woman who is said to have known

senate has received a letter from
au Iowa lady who thinks the effort -
fort to raise the nge of consent for
girls to eighteen years is a praiseworthy -
worthy one , but thinks the age at
which a maul should be adjudged
guilty should be twenty-one years.
The effect of this more than liberal -
eral sentiment toward innocent
and unprotected' ' young men of
nineteen and twenty is lost in the
addition of the cheerful suggestion
that hen a man has committed
this offense he shculd have his
ears cut off , so that he would be
marked and women would be
warned of his character.-Lincoln
Journal.
IT was clearly meant that all
men as well as women should
marry ; and those who , for whatever -
ever reason , miss this obvious destiny -
i tiny are , from nature's point of
view , failures. It is not a ques-
r , tion of felicity ( which in eight
l k , cases out of ten may be more than
problematic ) but of race responsi-
bility. The unmarried man is a
skulker , who , in order to. secure
his own ease , dooms some woman ,
who has a rightful claim on him ,
' to celibacy. And in so doing he
' ; defrauds himself of the o P Fortuni-
ties for mental and moral develop-
A J ; , went which only the normal ex-
r : ' perience can provide. He very
v. , deliberately stunts the stature of
his manhood , impoveribhes his
heart and brain , and chokes up all
the sweetest potentialities of his
soul. To himself he is apt to ap-
P ear like the wise fog that detects
' - the trap' though it be ever so
_ T cunningly baited , and refuses to
surrender his liberty for the sake
t ' - , of an appetizing chicken or rabbit
L which after all may be a decoy ,
stuffed.with sawdust ; while as a
matter of fact his case is that of
the cowardly servant in the Parable -
ble who for fear of losing his
1 talent hid it in a napkin , and in
the end was deemed unworthy of
1 his stewardship.-North American
