urer , were found is the Niobrara
river , Saturday night. He had
been hanged. Thus ended one of
the darkest and most dastardly
deeds over committed on Nebraska
soil.
A PARTIAL order for the foreclosure -
closure of the government mortgage -
gage against the Union Pacific
railroad company has been issued
by Judge Sanborn. Here is an
opportunity for the government to
try its hand at running a great
railrmd iii the interests of the

union. .
! THE present legislature should
enact a law that will give proper
encouragement and the widest
scope possible for the advancement
of irrigation. All admit this
much. Proper legislation is im-
P erativo. It is quite necessary
' that a look-out be kept for jobbery.
r It is essential for irrigations future
that we start upon a just and equitable -
able basis.
, THE discovery that a fine article
I of alcohol can be made from the
refuge syrup left in making sugar
from beets has placed an additional -
al value on this crop. This syrup

is now considered to be almost as
I valuable as the syrup product.
The establishment of beet sugar
factories and the cultivatioDof : the
sugar beet should receive every
possible encouragement in Neb-
raska.
THE advice offered by the Kan -
as City Journal to the destitute in
the west to "stay right where they
are and not go struggling about
the country in search of help" is
sound. Help is now at hand for
all the worthy poor who will make
their wants known to the local relief -
lief committees. Advices from
those who were frightened early
in the season and left their farms
to seek work in the east or south
are enough to discourage others
from following a similar course.
There is no work to be had beyond -
yond the needs of the local labor-
era in any part of the country , and
strangers are not so liberally treated -

residents. The pioneers who remain -

Don't cross the bridge until you reach
it. Don't decide the bond question until -
til it is presented for your consideration ,
and the merits and demerits of the
caseas well as our needs and necessities ,
are known. Some provision will likely
have to be made for seed and feed in the
spring. What the people of Red Willow
county must decide is , whether the
necessity exists , and then secondly the
best way to provide for it. Nothing
should enter into the consideration and
solution of this problem but responsible
horse sense.
Wednesday in chambers judge Welty
sentenced Harris , the tramp who last
week stole Will Beyrer's horse and buggy -
gy , to one year in the penitentiary , the
fellow having pled guilty. It appears
that Harris served a two years' tern ] in
the penitentiary before for burglary ,
under the name of Dawson. This being
the case his sentence was rather light.
Marshal Bump took the prisoner to Lin
coin , on No. 4 Wednesday. returning
home on No. 3 , last night.
The Indianola Courier is opposing any
idea to bond the county for seed and
feed. This matter needs thorough investigation -
vestigation before decision is finally
and irrevoca'ly made.
The worth of many patriots shrinks

GREAT OPPORTUNITY T.0 MAIu.
MONEY.
I have had such splendid success -
cess that I can't lielp writing to
you about it. I have not made
less that ) $5 , and some days from
$15 to $ ? 5. I am really elated ,
and can't see why others don't go
into the Dish Washer business at
once. I have not canvassed any ;
sell all my washers at home. They
gave such good satisfaction that
every one sold helps to sell others.
I believe in a year I can make a
profit of Three Thousand Dollars ,
and attend to my other business
besides. When a Climax Dish
Washer can be bought for $5 ,
every family wants one and it is
very easy selling what everybody
wants to buy. For particulars address -
dress the Climax Mfg. Co. , Columbus -
bus , Ohio. I think any lady or
gentleman , anywhere , can make
from $5 to $10 a day. I would
like to have your readers try this
business , and let us know through
your columns how they succeed.
