FEW statesmen and patriots rise
above nepotism , which is prevalent
in a noticeable degree in the present -
ent legislature.
IN the appointments in the present -
ent legislature Lancaster county
- exhibits the characteristic hoggishness -
ness of the big cities of the east
end.
THE New York Sun describes
the recent love-feast betweenGrove
and Dave as the kissing of righteousness -
eousness and peace , and leaves the
reader in doubt as to the identity
of the kissers.

LooI'ING state treasuries is getting -
ting to be quite a fail. A choice
selection of state treasurers and
t their thieving confederates need to
be Barrett Scott-ed most urgently.
Even if some of them must be lost
down a well or in the unopenable
mystery of the Nlobrara's quick-
sand.
SECRETARY LUDDEN's report of
the non-arrival of the vaunted
contributions to the "Nebraska
sufferers" from various states of
the Union suggests a modern method -
od of getting big adv6rtisements
gratis. The Journal hopes , however -
ever , that the people in th ® states
so far promising with no performance -
anco will insist on having those
train loads of wheat and coal forwarded -
warded or else that the fact of their
non-appearance shall be as widely
' 1 advertised as the good intentions
of those who contributed them in
their dreams.-Journal.
THOUSANDS of people had to be
turned away from a meeting of
citizens called in San Francisco ,
Saturday , to protest , among other
things , against the Pacific funding b
bill. The people of California
have not been quiescent under the
threat of this odious piece of legislation -
lation , but have been showering
remonstrances upon their representatives -
sentatives in congress and calling
upon them to defeat it at all haz-
ards. The representatives from
the Pacific coast will not be able to
.
excuse a vote in favor of the funding -
ing bill by asserting that they did
not know how their constituents
stood on the matter. Colorado ,
too , has spoken against the funding
bill through its legislature. What
does the Nebraska legislature propose -
pose to do-Bee.
SOUTH DAKOTA appears to have
been blessed with two thieves in
her roll of state officials. According -
ing to late reports the land corn-
missioner has been stealing the
school fund that passed through
his hands as the proceeds of the
school land sales and leases. As
in the case of the treasurer the steal
wasconsummated through the carelessness -
lessness of other officials whose
duty it was to look after his ac-
counts. It is a bad mess and indicates -
dicates a general state of demoralization -
ization in official and banking circles -
cles in that young state. Now
that the horse is gone it is too late
to lock the door of the stable , but
the thieves should be run down to
the last man of them and equal
justice meeted out to the gang ,
from the highest to the lowest.-

I MADE 75.00 IN A WEEK.
I have bought several plating
machines , but they were either not
large enough for some articles or
they did not work easy , and I have
never made much money until I
obtained the Practical Plating
Dynamo. This is the electrical
machine used in all the great gold
and silver plating factories , and
does the work every time. No
sooner did the people hear that I
had this electrical Dynamo , than I
had more spoons , knives , forks and
jewelry than I could plate in a
month. The first week I cleared
$31.50 , and the second week I
cleared $75.00 , and I think by the
first of January I will have a thousand -
sand dollars in cash and give my
farm considerable attention too.
The Plating Dynamo is the tiling
to use , and you can learn to use it
in about an hour. Any one can
write to W. P. Harrison & Co. , of
Columbus , Ohio , who make the
machines , for circulars. As this is
my first lucky streak , I give my
experience , hoping others may be
benefited as much as I have been.

THE HUMAN EAR.
A NOTABLE LECTURE ON THE SENSE
OF HEARING BY DR. HARTMAN.
During the course of one of Dr.
Hartmau's latest lectures at the
Surgical Hotel , he said : "Good
hearing is essential to health and
safety. A continual roaring , cracking -
ing and buzzing in the headwhich
is always produced by partial loss
of hearing , is a constant nervous
irritation which will gradually undermine -
dermine the strength. Besides
this , even a slight loss of hearing ,
renders any one more liable to
accident , many persons being killed -
ed every year because of partial
deafness. Many people think that
a gradual loss of the sense of hearing -
ing is inevitable , and that every
one must submit to it sooner or
later. Hence they make no effort
to find a cure. This is a mistake.
Loss of hearing in the old or
young people , is nearly always due
to chronic catarrh of the head or
middle ear. "
Catarrhal deafness is due to Catarrh -
tarrh of the throat passing up
through the Eustachian tubes to
the middle ear. The catarrh in
rare cases originates in and remains -
mains confined to the middle ear.
The symptolns are : Roaringcrack-
ing , buzzing in the ear , with gradually -
ually increasing difficulty in hear-
ing. If not cured the hearing will
be entirely destroyed. When the
case has not gone too far before
treatment is begun Pe-ru-na will
cure every case. It is only after
catarrh has destroyed portions of
the middle ear that Pe-ru-na fails
to cure. All such cases should
write Dr. Hartman , Columbus , 0. ,
for further advice.
A book on la grippe , coughs ,
colds , catarrh , etc. , will be sent
free to any address by the Pe-ru-na
Drug Manufacturing Company of
Columbus , Ohio.

The K-roads literary society will
debate the question : ILLesolved ,
"That single life affords more happiness -
piness than does the married
state. "
At the Sunday school election ,
last Sabbath , Frank Moore was reelected -
elected superintendent and Mrs.
Mary Richmond , assistant super-
intendent.
The many friends of Hon. J. J.
Lamborn here are pleased to note
that he was first to offer a bill for
the relief of drouth sufferers , also
that he is serving on some important -
tant committees.
