patriots who want office.
SENATOR RATHBUN , Representatives -

as being Thurston men.
COUNT FERDINAND DE LESSEPS ,
the greatest engileer perhaps in
the history of man , died in Paris ,
last Friday.
THURSTON senatorial stock is
rapidly reaching the high-water
mark. His election seems to be
i practically certain.

i Tui report of the secretary of
r ? 1 the Interior shows that during the .
j I. Past fiscal year 59,951 pensions
were dropped. Hoke might dust
as well have made it even 40,000.
THERE seems to be quite a gen-
errd demand for the federal 1 gov-
erument to give greater stability
and security to the banks of the
nation , and thus secure to the
1 country the much-needed confi-
dence.
OVER 55,000,000 have been
taken from New York banks in
the past ten years by dishonest
ernPtoye . That is defalcation.
The enormous amount taken from
the pedple ( by the sugar trust cannot -
not be computed. That is corn-
mercial shrewdness.
COLONEL TIM SEDGWICK of the
York Times is greatly depressed
about it , but is impelled to the
conclusion "that there is no habit
that will lead a man to greater
self-humiliation than the office-
seeking habit" It seems passing
strange to him that a mau who has
sat at the king's table for years
will "go out in the barn-yard
i and scratch with the chickens. "

'T'HERE is just one objection to
John.M. Thurston as a candidate
for United States Senator , as we
see it , but he has so many other
manly , brainy and thoroughly sub-
stautial qualifications that we do
not feel like attempting even to
urge the lone objection. He has
brain and heart and soul.

Wm. Myers went to Cambridge ,
the fore part of the week , to visit
his old neighbor , Everett Moore.
A car load of aid for the- poor

The young people of the Willow
are becoming good spellers as the
result of the revival of ye old time
spelling school. The match between -
tween district 72 and the Willow
school resulted in a victory for the
latter. Misses Baker and Wood-
worth favored the audience with
some select music after which the
spelling began. In the free-for-all
Horace Taylor won the laurels.
Misses Stangeland and Rittenhouse
both have model schools. Miss
Nettie Helm of the Willow school
won the victory. We understand
the Ball district has challenged
the victors with the intention of
divesting them of some of their
conceit , which , it is supposed they
Irow possess. Box Elder is also
desirous of competing with them.
For the next thirty days you can
secure unapproachable bargains
at Sutton's jewelry and music
store. His stock must be reduced ,
and he will make prices to accomplish -
plish that result. Call and inspect -
spect his line of goods.
Cochran & Co. carry a full line
of shelf and heavy hardware. They
always make you the right price.

VAILTON.
Quite a snow storm Monday.
James Harris and two sons are
spending a portion of the winter
in the east.
A very small boy has recently
made bright and , lovely the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Hatcher.
Messrs. Brown and Harlan have
just finished putting up a nice lot
of wood on the Kolb place.
There will be a vacancy in the
post office here , soon. An office
with more work than salary.
John Baldwin is improving his
property under the ( fitch , which ,
by-the way , is a very desirable
tract.

Mr. Snodgrass will farm in the
the
adjoining-Hitchcock-county
coming season ; he moved there last
Friday.
Neighbor Fauss and son Andrew -
drew , are prospecting in Texas.
Mr. Grundy expects to visit that
state ere long.
Mrs. E. S. Dutcher' ' mother ,
who has been spending a few very
pleasant weeks witlr the family ,
returned home , Wednesday.
Sabbath school and Christian
Endeavor meetings , every Sunday
afternoon , at the Frederick School
house. Both meetings are largely
attended.
D. Dutcher has returned from
his western trip , where he had
been assisting Mr. Barr to open
up and arrange a place to hold
cattle and horses for the coming
winter.
Supt. Baysfon called on the
Vailtori school last Friday. The
country or district school work is
something the superintendent is
taking special pains to advance
and perfect.
Quite an interesting literary society -
ciety meets in the school house
just north of here , every Friday
evening. Good speaking , debating -
ing and music make up the pro-
gramme. We think the silver
question is hooked for discussion
this evening. In our opinion the
silver dollar is all right , it being
their general absence that disturbs
our equilibrium.
INDIANOLA.
The county officers are doing
business at the old stand.
W. Gorge Sheppard was a visitor -
itor to the metropolis , Saturday.
The hunt , last Friday , was a
success with two well defined sets
of horns.
Charles Kin ; and wife visited
relatives in our big sister city on
the west SVednesdav.
The new officers of the Red
Willow County Agricultural Society -
ciety are : W. S. Fitch , president ;
Ora Clark , vice president ; C. W.
Beck , secretary ; J. B. Neel , Treasurer -
urer ; Willis Gossard , superintend-
eut ; A. P. Day , marshal.
Willis Gossard was , last Friday
evening , summoned to Cripple
Creek , Colorado , by a telegram
announcing the sudden death of
his brother Walker , by a premature -
ture explosion in a mine. The
deceased formerly lived at Bartley.
A wife and five children survive
him , we understand.
TYRONE.
The snow storm caused much
excitement.
Hard times have brought some
of us down to two meals a day.
C. G. Broman went on a tour
with Rev. Lavine to Long Branch ,
Kansas.
Mrs. Richmond and Miss Vorce
have been attending the revival
meetings at Wilsonville.
Yesterday we heard an animated
discussion upon that old question ,
"Who was the father of Zebedee's
children ? "
Let us cut off expenses wherever
we can. Last week we learned of
an old "bath" who uses powdered
cow chips for smoking tobacco and
says it is a very good substitute.

CATARRH CURES BY THOUSANDS BY
DR. HAitTMAN.
The symptoms of chronic catarrh -
tarrh vary according to the stage
and exact lncation of the disease.
'T'he first stage of catarrh of the
nose and bead produces discharge
from the nose , sneezing , pain in
the eyes and forehead , weak , and
sometimes watery aYes , occasionally -
ally loss of memory , to the last
stage the discharge ceases , and
dry , offensive scabs form in the
11Pse ; polypi growths sometimes
form in one or both nostrils , and
the pain in the head and eyes is
much less. Unless something is
done to prevent , the catarrh vill
follow the mucous membrane into
the lungswhere it will be followed
by coughs , night sweats , rapid loss
of flesh and other dread symptoms
of consumption.
To all such persons Dr. Hart
man's treatment comes as a great
1)0011. It is only necessary to send
name and address to Dr. Hartman ,
Columbus , Ohio , and complete directions -
rections for first mouth's treatm ( nt
will be sent free. Not only is it
more successful in curing catarrh
than the treatment of the catarrh
specialists , but it is within the
reach of every person in this laud.
A medicine which is the principal
part of Dr. Hartmai's treatment ,
known as Pe-ru-na , can be bought
at any drag store , and is a remedy

forms , coughs , colds , bronchitis ,
consumption , and all climatic diseases -
eases of winter. Each bottle is

tions for use.
Address the Pe ru-na Drug
Manufacturing Company , Columbus -
bus , Ohio , for a copy of their latest -
est catarrh book. Sent free to
