The most iniquitous of all vampires ,
the B. & M , railroad company , is after
the poor farmers again. They have been
grinding the farmers of Chase county
down all this summer by giving them
free transportation over their lines to
any place where they ( the poor farmers )
could find work. Now they are offering
to ship anything free that the farmers
can get their friends to send them to live
on. Besides all coal necessary to keep
the people warm during the cold winter
now coming on. Oh , the wicked , grasping -
ing , heartless railroad company.-Impe-
rial Enterprise.
J. F. Custer has removed to McCook
and is now running out of there on the
main line. . . .It is said from the Burlington -
ton headquarters that there is no immediate -
diate prospect of building through the
Big Horn Basin , as a telegram from
Cheyenne says. George W. Loomis , chief
clerk to General Manager Holdrege said
that there were no plans forbuilding the
road , but the matter had been talked of.
The World-Herald , several weeks ago ,
contained a statement to the effect that
the Burlington engineers had gone over
the ground between Sheridan and the
Yellowstone park , and that their report
was that the road could be easily built.
It would traverse the great cattle regions
of AVyoming , and would open a vast
mineral country , and would be the queen
scenic route of America. . . .A crew came
down from McCook , Tuesday , and took
the stock extra run. Tiere is considerable -
able dissatisfaction with this arrange
ment. The run properly belongs to the
crews on the St. Francis , but about every
other trip a crew is sent down from Mc-
Cook. This reduces the pay of the boys
here by several dollars. The main line
crews at McCook are making more money -
ey than those on the branch lines and
the object of this method of train service
is difficult to find unless it originates
and emanates from a desire on the part
of the headquarters to turn all they can
to the benefit of McCook. If this be
true the boys here could better afford to
make an agreement to spend their checks
in McCook. They would get more wages
and have firmer .
