Leming went down to Red Cloud , Tuesday morning , to ivisit relatives - tives and friends for a 'brief while. Messrs Rogers and Kay sold their herd of hogs to F. S. Wilcox , close of last week. They were among the finest. Mrs. George Conner is back from her visit to Falls City and Kansas City , were she has been for the past few weeks. Will Archibald will return from the Alliance line soon and resume his old job of firing on this division out of McCook. Don't like railroading up in that coantry first-class. S. Gilcrest has been under the weather for some time past , and will take a few days lay-off for the purpose of recuperating - ating his health. A man came up from McCook to take his place as switchman in the yards.-Akron Republican. Station Agent Brown was very much surprised and chagrined when the B. & 111 , auditor dropped off the train this morning and informed him that he waste to be relieved. It was as much of a surprise - prise to everyone in town as himself , as he was well liked by all. A paper is being circulated msking the companx to retain him here. He is succeeded by Mr. Larrison late of Grant.-Cambridge Kaleidoscope. Madsen-O'Leary. St. Patrick's church was the scene of a numerous and brilliant gathering , Wednesday morning , to witness the marriage of Mr. Peter Madsen and Miss Kate O'Leary. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father J. W. Hickey according to the solemn and impressive ordinance of the Catholic church. A sister of the bride , Miss Nellie O'Leary , was bridesmaid , and Mr. Jerry Mullen , groomsman. The bride was elegantly arrayed in a cream moire antique trimmed with white ostrich tips , en train , wore a veil caught up with lilies of the valley and maiden's hair fern. The bridesmaid wore a handsome heliotrope and pale green shaded moire , trimmed with Brussels lace and pearl passementerie , and carried a large bouquet of La France roses. The groom and best man were dressed in conventional style. High mass preceded the ceremony , and a wedding dinner was served at the St. Charles hotel by the bride's parents , at which but the relatives and a few invited - vited guests were participants. The young people were nicely remembered - membered by relatives and friends. In the evening they were duly chariv- aried by the A. 0. U.V. . band and young America in general , with a most fiendish energy. Wejoin in best wishes and congratu- lations. Death of Benjamin Bird. The early settlers of southwestern Nebraska - braska will learn with pain of the death of one of their number , as set forth in the following item from the Enid , Oklahoma - homa , Daily News : Benjamin Bird died Sunday afternoon , October 14 , at his home in Jonesville , in the sixty-second year of his age. Benj. Bird was born April i6 , 1833 , at Eliza- bethtown , Kentucky. He was the son of Jessie and Leadicia ( Ray ) Bird and Icmained in Kentucky until he was about twenty-one years of age. He removed to Missouri and located at St. Josephwhere he was engaged in the mercantile business - ness for twenty years. About twelve years ago he removed to western Kansas where he was engaged in the cattle business - ness until last fall. When the Strip was opened he came to Enid and has since lived in this city , where lie has been a real estate dealer. He was married June 21st , 1859 , to Amanda V. Snail and has three daughters - ters living : these are Lila , who resides in Enid ; Fanny , now Mrs. G. D. Pierce of Enid , and nellie , now Mrs. Wm. Munn of Cheyenne county , Kansas. Mr. Bird was many years a member of the Methodist - odist church , and was also connected with the Masonic lodge. Mrs. M. E. Barger is receiving her fall and winter millinery goods. Little Earl Bates came to his death , last Saturday "morning , front eating bread upon which phosphorus had been spread to kill rats , mice , etc. Although the poisoned bread had been placed in an out-of-the-way place , the little fellow managed some how to find it , and death resulted on the following umorniug. Phosphorus is a terribly deadly drug without a known antidote , and the greatest care should be exercised in its use. The case in point is a very sad one , and thg sorrowing parents have all sympathy - pathy its their sadness over the tragic loss of their little boy. The funeral of little Earl , the three and one-half year old son of Mr. and blrs. A. A. Bates , of West McCook , tool ; place on Monday afternoon at z o'clock , from the residence , Rev. A. G.
