We will have to provide a few thousand more offices Hr sadly dis appoint a few thousand office seek ers, this fall. The national debt has been in creased 85 million dollars, the past few months. This is how we are in clover with Grover all over, as it were. Will M. Maupin of the North Bend Republican wants to be sec retary of state. And The Tribune can’t think of an objection to the fulfillment of that want. Not one. Senator Allen’s recent es capade in Washington will cause more regret in Nebraska than re joicing, although he is but a poor, despised pop. It is a sad temper ance lecture and the incident is to be deeply and keenly deplored. The Curtis Courier breaks the western unanimity by yelling and pulling for Tom Majors. It will do its yelling and pulling for Jack MacColl after the convention. The doctor is nothing if not a true-blue republican.—Wallace Star. The citizens of Republican City and vicinity met in that place, last Saturday afternoon to discuss the evils of the Russian thistle, and to devise means for its eradication. Such gatherings should become popular. The Russian thistle should be treated as au imvader, and banished. Merwin of the Beaver City Tri bune, in a moment of forgetful ness, raises his voice to high C and inquires “who commands, who is running this country, any how?” Such a break might have been excusable, a year or two ago, but now there is nothing to say in extenuation, positively nihil. What’s the matter with the Re publican editors of the Fifth con gressional district meeting at Holdrege August 9th, and organ izing an association for mutual benefit? They ought to be able to do themselves “a heap of good” by such a move.—Hayes Centre Republican. The Frontier County True Re publican, published at Stockville, is after Banker Cruzen’s little sec retary of state boomlet with a very long and ugly looking knife. And it is a question whether or not Cruzen’s $mile$ will save him. Things are evidently not all har mony up in old Frontier, as we stated recently. “Profanity,"’ says The McCook Tribune, “is out of place in the presence of ladies.” Is that the whole truth and nothing but the truth, Brother Kimmell?—Wal lace Star, No, sir, Brother Rogers. It’s low and common and mean and contemptible and inexcusable and ungodly anywhere and everywhere. So there now. (PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY.) Commissioners’ Proceedings. Indianola, Neb.. July 2,1894.
