A Blacksmith SAves the Life of
a Litti.e Girl.—Minnie Carney, of
Lytle City, Iowa, was perhaps as near
leaving this world as any one can be,
and recover. She was sick with chol
era morbus; completely exhausted and
unconscious. The physicians in con
sultation decided the case was hopeless
and beyond their control. Chas. J.
Newcomb, a blacksmith, 'walked four
miles through the darkness and storm,
to get a remedy he had himself used
and which he firmly believed would
cure her. That medicine was Cham
berlain’s Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea
Remedy. He obtained part of a bottle
with which he returned and gave the
little sufferer a half teaspoonful, which
relieved her and consciousness gradually
returned. The medicine was given in
broken doses and in a short time she
was well. He is positive that it saved
her life, and has ethers in that vicinity.

CHANGE OF LIFE.
A TRYING ORDEAL IN WOMAN’S LIFE
MADE EASY.
Pe-ru-na is the favorite remedy dui
ing Change of Life, as it not only pal
liates the disagreeable symptoms dur-(
ing the trying ordeal, but guards the
system from the many chronic ailments
which are liable to set in. Pe-ru-na
promptly relieves t lie nervousness,
sleeplessness; throbbing, hemorrhage,
rush of blood to the head, palpitation,
indigestion, painful menstruation, leu
corrhoea and faint spells, from which
most of tfiese patients suffer. It acts
as a preventive against dropsy, heart
disease, enlargement of the liver, and
kidney disease, which are so frequently
acquired at this time.
Mrs. Diley A. Mason, White Wright,
Texas, says in her letter to Dr. Hart
man: “I was a sufferer from the
Change of Life. I thought I had
everything. I thought I had heart
trouble. I got six bottles of Pe-ru-na
and one of Man-a-lin and took them.
I am now sound and well. I improved
immediately on taking Peruna, and am
now as well as ever in my life.”

eases sent by the Pe-ru-na Drug Manu
facturing Company of Columbus, Ohio.

It is to be hoped that the sen
ate bribery committee will not at
tempt to close the doors of the in-j
vestigation in the sugar cases. 1
Such an actiou will have the ap-l
pearance of a “whitewash,” and will
be taken by the public as presump
tive evidence against the sus
pected senators. The public has j
the right to demand that whatever!
accusations are made against the
public servants be made in a public
way so that the people may hear
all sides of the case. The inves
tigation of the bribery charges is
not so much the business of the
senate as rt is of the people. The
bribery committee is®ot the crea
tion of the senate only, as the sen -
ate is the creation of the people,
and, as public servants, the mem
bers of this committee have no
right to keep the people from
hearing the evidence for and
against the suspected senators.
The attorney for the Washington
correspondent who is going to
make a fight against the “Star
chamber” investigation voices the
sentiment of the whole people.
If it is true that the judge of a
United States district court incor
porated into his decision denying
an application for an injunctional
order a statement that the govern
ment of Colorado had fallen into
the hands of socialists and im-'
beciles he certainly must be cred-j
ited with an exhibition of siugu-I
larly bad taste. No matter what!
his private opinion of the Cclorado
officials may be he had no business
to make that a part of his own
official acts. The question wheth
er a person is a socialist is largely
one of personal opinion, and wheth
er he is au imbecile wholly one of
personal opinion. The personal
opinion of a United States judge
on these subjects should be per
mitted to pass for what it is worth
without clothing it with the author
ity that usually attaches to opin
ions proclaimed from the bench.—
Omaha Bee.
The proposal of Congressman
Stone of Pennsylvania to abolish
the fat fees now paid to United
States marshals and attorneys is
timely and should receive the con
sideration from congress that its
merits deserve. It is a common
practice in the west for United
States marshals to arrest men up
on trivial charges, take them be
fore the federal courts, generally
several hundred miles distant, and
then, after a brief incarceration in
jail, have the case against the ac
cused nolled. The marshal gets
the fees and mileage. He travels
on a railroad pass. A great many
men have been put to a severe in
convenience, loss of time and
money and disgrace in order that
a United States marshal may pile
up fees. Such things have even
been done in Nebraska.

The Christian Endeavor gath
ering is always one of the largest
in the country. Even New York
had great difficulty in handling it,
and how Cleveland is going to
provide for the delegates is a
question. The difference between
the Endeavorers and a political
convention is that the saloons al
ways take care of a great many
political delegates and thus re
move the congestion from the
hotels and streets.

A HOUSEHOLD TREASURE.
D. W. Fuller, of Canajoharie, N. Y.,
says that he always keeps Dr. King’s
New Discovery in the house and his
family has always found the very best
results follow its use; that he would
not be without it if procurable. G. A.
Dykeman, druggist, Catskill, N. Y.,
says that Dr. King’s New Discovery is
undoubtedly the best cough remedy:
that he has used it in his family for
eight years, and it has never failed to
do all that is claimed for it. Why not
try a remedy so long tried and tested?
