Irrigation in the west, in ac
cordance with a strictly scientific j
plan, is an object of investigation j
now in progress before the geolog- i
ical survey at Washington. The I
large rivers in that section have |
been accurately gauged, and the j
examination has been conducted i
upon an extensive scale. The pros
pect is that irrigation, which has
long been a theory in certain sec
tions of America which only re- i
quires water to make them fruit
ful, will, with the encouragement of
the Government, become a condi
tion in the near future.
