John Berry, who finished first in the
cowboy race on his horse Poison, gets
first prize for the race. The committee
last Thursday reached its decision, and
Berry, in spite of the protest against
him on the ground that he was familiar
with the route traversed, received the
$1,000 first prize, and an additional $500
from Colonel Cody. Major Burke also
distributed a generous sum among all
the Contestants.

Quite a distructive hail storm visited
a portion of Missouii Ridge precinct
Sunday evening extending from the
Wm. Smith place several miles in either
direction. Harrison Fritsch who resides
on that place had his crops pounded
badly as did Mr. Nutt, Mr. Newland
and several others. The storm lasted
about 20 minutes and hail fell as large
as a hen egg.—Courier.
The storm of Wednesday night is re
ported as very severe at Herndon hav
ing blown down the new Catholic
church, and badly wrecking the new
German congregational which was al-'
most complete. Several other buildings
were also blown away entailing a loss
of several hundred dollars.—Atwood

17 chains and 80 links, thence east 6 chains
and 65 links, thence south on section line
to southeast corner of the northeast quarter
of section 20, all in township 3, range 30.
Also, commencing at the northeast corner of
the northwest quarter of section 32, township
4, range 30, thence south on tiie quarter sec
tion line to the south line of said section,
terminating thereat, has reported in favor of
the location thereof, and all objections
thereto or claims for damages must be filed
in the county clerk’s office on or before noon
of the 9th day of September A. D. 1893, or
said road will be located without reference

chattel mortgage dated November 26th, 1892,
and duly filed in the office of the county
clerk of lied Willow county, Nebraska, on
the 28th day of November, 1892, and execu
ted by Frank J. Fante to F. U. Spearman, to
secure the sum of 55146.10. according to one
certain promissory note of said Frank J.
Fante, which note with mortgage securing
same was sold, assigned and transferred to
the undersigned; that said note became due
January 1st, 1S93, and is still unpaid. De
fault having been made in the payment of
said sum and no suit or other proceeding at
law having been instituted t« recover said
debt or any part thereof, I will sell the prop
erty described therein: one roan mare with
suckling colt, one brown horse about 9 years
old, one blue roan mare about 5 years old
with her suckling colt, one black mare
14 years old with her suckling colt and
one bay mare about 4 years old, substituted
