Literary Note.
Fairies, covenanters, wolves, ghosts
and dancing puddings figure one after
another, each rivaling its predecessor in
lively interest in the pages of Romance
for May. The special feature for this
number is stories of Scotland and Ire
land, and the most characteristic writers
of these countries have been drawn up
on for contributions. Among these
are the Countess of Munster, Allan
Cunningham, T. C. Spaulding, Alexan
der Leighton, Rosa Mulholland and
William Carleton, while one of our own
best-known writers Elizabeth W.Champ
ney furnishes an Irish story, bubbling
over with humor. A thrilling account
of a Russian wolf hunt, some charming
French love stories, and an exciting
tale of an old Indian warefare in New
England fill out a most entertaining
number. This magazine is issued by
Romance Publishing Co., Clinton Hall,
Astor Place, New York, at 25 cents a
number; $2.50 a year.

• Mr. Win. Westlake, a prominent far
mer and breeder of thoroughbred horses,
living near Avoca, Neb , was so badly
injured by being thrown from his sulky,
as to bo unable to raise his hand to his
head. After using numerous liniments
and consulting several physicians with
out getting any relief, he asked if I
knew anything that would help him. I
recommended Chamberlain’s Pain Halm,
which he used, and within two weeks
he had entirely recovered the use of h s
arm. I consider Chamberlain’s Pain
Hahn the greatest preparation ever pro
duced for sprains, bruises, deep-seated
and muscular pains, burns, and scalds.

Portland, Ore., July 31.
While I was in Tillamook last winter
l was affected in my back and kidneys
so that it was almost iumossible for me
to reach Portland. When I got here I
was induced to try the OREGON KID
NEY TEA. I drank at my meals the
tea made from it, and it has effected a
radical cure. I can highly recommend
it to all who are afflicted as I was.

Deserving Praise.
We desire to say to our citizens, that
for years we have been selling Dr.
Kings’s New Discovery for Consump
tion, Dr. King’s New Life Pills, Buck
len’s Arnica Salve and Electric Bitters,
and have never handled remedies that
sell so well, or that have given such
universal satisfaction. We do not hesi
tate to guarantee them every time, and
we stand ready to refund the purchase
price, if satisfactory results do not fol
low their use. These remedies have
won their great, popularity purely on
their merits. McMillen, druggist.
No man can smile in the face of ad
versity, and mean it.
I have been troubled with chronic
sore eyes for forty-five years, and dur
ing that time I have used many differ
ent remedies, but have never found
any that seemed to do me any good,
until I procured a box of Chamberlain’s
Eye and Skin Ointment. I have used
only about one-third of a box, and can
truthfully say, I have never had my
eyes feel as well, nor look as well as
they do now. I expect to cure them
entirely with the Ointment. Ben
Heath, Dow City, Iowa. 25 cent bot

Truth is stranger than fiction, be
cause it is scarcer.
During an epidemic of whooping
cough at De Witt, Iowa, a prominent
family there bought a fifty cent bottle
Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy for their
children.* It proved so satisfactory
that they recommended it to their
neighbors; and they in turn to others.
In less than a week’s time the druggist,
Mr. C. Y. Baxter, was having an im
mense run on it. The medicine is still
the main reliance in that vicinity for
coughs colds, croup and whooping cough.
Mr. Baxter says, “It sells on its merits.”

To perpetuate beautiful complexion is

A STRANGE" CASE.
How an Enemy was Foiled.
The following graphic statement will be
read with intense interest:;“I cannot describe
the numb, creepy sensation that existed in my
a rms, hands and legs. I had to rub and beat
those parts until they were sore, to overcome
in a measure the dead feeling that had taken
possession of them. In addition, I had a
strange weakness in my back and around my
waist, together with an indescribable ‘gone’
feeling in my stomach. Physicians said it
was creeping paralysis, from which, accord
ing to their universal conclusion, there is no
relief. Once It fastens upon a person, they
say.lt continues Its insidious progress until
it reaches a vital point and the sufferer dies.
Such was my prospect. 1 had been doctoring
a year and a half steadily, but with no par
ticular benefit, when I saw an advertisement,
of Dr Miles' Restorative Nervine, procured a
bottle and began using it. Marvelous as it
may seem, but a few days had passed before
every bit of that creepy feeling had left me,
and there has not been even the slightest
indication of its return. I now feel as
well as I ever did, and have gained ten
pounds in weight., though I had run down
from 170 to 137. Four ot tiers have used Dr.
Miles’ Jiestorative Nervine on my recomen
dation, and it lias been as satisfactory in their
cases as in mine.”—James Kane, La Rue, O.
Dr. Miles’ Restorative Nervine is sold by all
druggists on a positive guarantee, or sent
