The beet sugar spa-on in Nr' ' raska
i.s now practically ended and it appears
that the Grand Island factory has done
a larice business , [ t has used 12,000
tons of beets and produced 2,110,000
pounds of sugar. Such figures as
these show that the sugar industry is
one of great importance of the state.
Its rapid growth affords ground for the
belief that it is destined to become one
of the largest industries in the state.
The low price of wheat is attributed
by trade journals here and abroad to
the haste with which the farmers have
been forcing it onto the market. The
crop is on the whole much smaller than
last year , but so long as the fanners
keep the railroads and the elevators at
all terminal points choked with grain
there is little prospects for a better
ment in prices. A general "hold your
wheat'1 circular would have done much
good to farmers everywhere , according
to the best observers. The gieatest
trouble with a circular of that kind is
that it does not hold the Mheat. Each
farmer wants his neighbor to obey it ,
while he rushes off to sell his crop for
the best prices he can get. Journal.
