nated for congress , Wednesday , by
the republicans of the third Ne
braska district. It was the very
strongest nomination possible and
there is no reason to fear defeat
under ordinary circumstances.
A great many of the disaffections -
tions in republican party of this
and other states are purely local
and are caused by the pernicious
offensiveness and the tyrannous
bulldozing of the county bosses.
Despotic and overbearing , many
of them drive men , especially
young men away from the party
by the scores. Bee.
WE learn with great pleasure
that ex-superintendent W. E. An
drews of this county , and now
Prof. Andrews of the college at
Hastings , Nebraska , has been
made the republican nominee for
congress in his district. He will
make a good. one the best kind
of a candidate and congressman.
In saying this we speak of that
which we do know. He possesses
the necessary gifts and qualifica
tions in a rare measure. Ring-
gold ( la. ) Record.
A bill has been reported to the
senate requiring railroad com
panies , within a stated time , to
supply all their locomotives and
cars with safety appliances. Sen
ator Cullom , chairman of the in
terstate commerce committee
which reported the bill , hopes to
have the measure passed at the
present session , and it is to be.
hoped he will be successful.
There has been a strong influence
against the proposed legislation ,
but it will undoubtedly be adopted
and there is no good rerson why it
should not be at the present ses
sion. It contemplates no hard
ship to the railroads , and it is nec
essary to compel the companies to
proceed more rapidly than they are
doing in adopting safety appli'-ri
