THE TRIBUNE is pleased to see so
many houses and yards in McCook being
improved , decorated and beautified.
We are very pleasantly situated natur
ally and it requires but the use of a
little muscle and taste to make McCook
one of the very prettiest towns in all
the west. And the work is going brave
ly on this spring.
The building in rear of J. C. Allen's

There are three features of the new
water ordinance which -will be particu
larly acceptable at this time : Firstly
The increase of sprinkling hours
from 4 to 6. Secondly The reduction
in price from $5 to $3 on additional
lots. And Thirdly Making the open
ing of the lawn season one month earlier
or April 15th. Besides the new tariff

THE DITCH ASSURED
Bonds Certain to be Voted to Aid
the South Side Enterprise.
SATISFACTORY GUARANTEE
Given ihe People by Chas.
H. Meeker.
HARMONY SECURED NOW
And the Good Work Will Go on
to Completion.
There is now absolutely nothing in
the way of the South Side Irrigation
Ditch. Nothing ! Ail teasonable ob
jections have been met. All fair de
mands complied with. Mr. Meeker
has entered into an agreement to deliv
er ten cubic feet of water per second at
the point where the ditch intersects
Driftwood creek before asking for the
bonds. He then will give a bond in
the sum of $10,000 to complete the
ditch through this precinct.
At the meeting held in the city hall ,
lasc Saturday evening , Messrs. George
HocknellV. Franklin , F. H. Spearman ,
F. H. Fowler and John Whittakerwere
elected a committee to confer with Mr.
Meeker and secure from him a proposi
tion. These gentlemen , at a meeting
held in the opera hall , last evening , re
ported substantially as above , and the
same was received by the voters and
tax payers present with a unanimous
voice.
Besides these meetings have resulted
in a better understanding of the matter.
Many objections have in this way been
removed , and the splendid advantages
to be derived from irrigation have been
more fully set forth in practical figures.
They show that the bonds proposed to
aid in the construction of the ditch will
be beyond all cavil the best investment
ever made by Willow Grove precinct.
THE TRIBUNE feels perfectly secure
at this time in stating that the bonds
will carry by a good round majority
and that the South Side Irrigation
Ditch will be a "real , rosy reality" just
as soon as wen and means and energy
can frame it. .
The large portion of our people are
in dead earnest in this matter. They
clearly see the immeasurable good that
will eventually come upon us from irri
gation and they , with the committee of
sixty selected last evening , will see
that no harm shall come upon it , Sat
urday , May 23rd.

MEMORIAL DAY.
C. A. R. Department of Nebraska Pre
paring to Observe the Day.
General order No. 4 , has been issued
from the Nebraska department head
quarters , G. A. R. and is as follows :
In accordance with the rules and reg
ulations of the Grand Army of the Re
public , and in compliance with general
order No. 22 , promulgated herewith ,
Saturday , May 30th , will bo observed
as Memorial day , in commemoration of
the heroic deeds and services of our
fallen heroes.
In the past year two of our great
est commanders on land and on sea ,
with an appalling company of their
comrades , who went to make up the
grandest army on earth , have crossed
over and entered the silent bivouac that
awaits us all.
Let us while living imbue the young
with patriotic impulses , that the prec
ious memory of the brave may be pre
served , and the trials and dangers , the
Bufferings and sacrifices of the war for
the preservation of the union will not
have been in vain. And as you strew
anew the garlands o'er the graves of
your sleeping comrades , no doubt your
minds will revert back to the days of
toilsome marches and fearful carnage ,
when you stood shoulder to shoulder in
defense.of that flag which is the emblem
of the proudest nation on earth.
The posts in this department are
hereby directed to make such arrange

liberty loving citizens generally , especi

it is directed that post commanders ar
range to have their respective posts at
tend services in a body on that day and
all ministers of the gospel are request
ed to deliver an appropriate sermon in
their places of worship.
The chaplain will make a full report
of the exercises held by his post to the
department chaplain. This duty should
be performed immediately after memo
rial day and should be as complete as
possible. By order of Jos. TEETER ,
Commander.

ANOTHER irrigation and water com
pany was organized at Kearney , this
week. The articles of incorporation
run for ninety-nine years and provide
building canals , storing water for irri
gation , erection of mills , manufactories ,
elevators , shops , etc. The proposed
canal will originate in Dawson county ,
and is intended to run through Buffalo
and into Hall county. It will run north
of the industrial school , and reservoirs
for power and other purposes will be
formed in a deep draw near Lake
Kearney. It is the intention of the
company to proceed at once to active
work , the first thing being an accurate
preliminary survey of the route which
has already been carefully viewed , and
is altogether practicable. This done ,
the company has assurance from farm
ers on the route of all possible assist
ance , and voluntary offers of eastern
capital have already been made to be
available at the proper stage of work.
