Some predict that the'great change In the
f lublonlnfr of the clothes which are to bo worn
by women this coming season is the most
wonderful victory of the nineteenth century
if fashion leaders can be induced to adopt It ,
and appear just once In public so arrayed.
Men will hold their breath in wonder at the
marvelous change it makes in lovely woman.
"Few of the fair sex can help being beautiful
in these glove-fitting costumes. " says A writer
in a recent number of THE NEW YORK AND
PAKIS YOUNQ LADIKS FASHION BAZAK.
This magazine is the only one in Europe or
America which makes n specialty of giving
those inclined to stoutness an unrivaled ap
pearance of sculptured ftlimness ! " said Her
Uoyal Highness the Princess of Wales. Mad
ame Paul has ordered from the Paris house
four magnificent costumes , the designs of
wlilcti appear in the .April number of this
Fashion Bnziir nnd in this magazine only.
Mrs. Harrison Is greatly fascinated with the
exquisite gem. costume No. 4 , in the April
number. It Is expected she will give an order
for an exact counterpart of it. the whole front
of which will bo incrustcd with pin-head
diamonds. This gown alone will be worth a
king's ransom.
VAILTON VOICES.
A. Hutcbins is buck from Denver.
Snow once more and plenty of moisture.
Parties from the east are expected soon on
the old Merchant ranch.
John Boatman will move onto a ranch south ,
so there is no great change In this locality.
Considerable small grain has been sown and
further work will progress when thesnow goes.
Mrs. Clements has rented her place with a
view of selling to parties. Indeed the sale is
about confirmed.
The last storm appeared a little hard on
stock but if followed by warm weather there
will not bo much less here.
The sick at John Baldwin's , who have been
having a pretty bard time with symptoms of
lung fever , are improving.
George Myers will move from the Scott Per
ry ranch to his old Hitchcock county farm on
the Driftwood. Glad wo will not wholly lose
him as a neighbor. RALPH.
Washington and Frederick the Great.
With the Story of a Uythleal Sworl
( Moncure D. Conway in April Century. )
When John Brown went to conquer the
South with twenty-three men he believed that
the less he trusted arms of flesh the more Je
hovah might be depended on to unsheathe his
sword. The only other sword Brown consid
ered worthy to be used by the Almighty was
that which Washington was said to have re
ceived from Frederick the Great. One of
Brown's men ( Cook ) came as a spy to Bel Air ,
and was hospitably shown the Washington
relics for which he inquired. Brown told Col.
Washington , after taking him prisoner , that
he wished to get hold of the sword "because it
has been used by two successful generals. "
The superstition cost him dear. In order to
get the sword Brown detached six of his men
to go after it five miles away. He thus lost
half a day , and all chance of escape. Seven
teen lives were offered as on an altar before
this mythical sword.
BANKSVILLE BUDGET.
A. M. Benjamin went to Traer , Kansas , the
27th inst. It was an all day job.
The mail only carried Saturday , Tuesday and
Thursday missed at Banksville.
There was born to Mrs. Mary E. Hill , the
27th inst. , a girl. Mother doing well.
G. 8. Lincoln says he is out of fuel and is
working up old chunks rejected before. Uncle
John Rowland says he is short of fuel , too.
There was some wheat sowed before the
snow storm and the snow will be apt to hold it
down. The prospects for farming are more
brilliant than any spring since 1884 , and if the
succession follows in the way of rain we will
have as bountiful crops as anywhere. This is
better than artificial , if the natural continues.
Snow commenced falling hero 5:30 P. M. the
23d inst. and continued to 25th inst. to about
5:30 , A. M. 36 hours. Depth of snow fall
from one to two feet. The 25th , 26th and 27th
quite warm , melting the snow considerable.
The 28th was fogy and misty all day , the night
rainy , and by 8 o'clock 29th inst. snowing some
again. OBSERVER.
