ing passenger. The visit of the
General has ' peculiar oigiiificaucQ ,
ho being thd dis lijigaisiicdgoutle-
man , in honor of Avhom our city
was christened. The above named
regular army officers Avere mot at
the depot by the reception com
mittee , and by an immense con-
course of citizens , old veterans ,
and others. They were conveyed
to the parlors of the Commercial
House , where an impromptu re
caption was held , Col. Golfer wel
coming the distinguished visitors
in brief but appropriate terms , af
ter which they were driven over
the city. It is perhaps unnecessary
to state that the party was most
favorably impressed with the ap
pearance of McCook , arrayed as
she is in her bright and patriotic
garbforthe auspicious occasion.
The program of the day was then
taken up as announced.

pretty name ; an honorable one ; and

A family from Frontier county
were the first to take quarters in
the camp. They arrived , yester
day morning.
Col. Gatchell goes aboxit laying
out a camp like a veteran. He . is
a rusher , too , and has been very
helpful in placing things in shape.
