The Swift Specific Co. , Atlanta , Ga. :
Gentlemen Sevenyearsago I contracted
an exceedingly bad case of blood poison. I
tried a physician , the best at command , but
secured no benefit. My throat began to
get sore , and my body covered with sores
and ulcers. Going from bad to worse , I
felt that my grave must be reached in the
near future. I gave up the doctors' treat-
ment , and with a despairing hope I com
menced taking your medicine. I began to
improve from the first bottle , and in a short
time the ulcers healed , and my skin cleared
off and was entirely well.
One year ago a case of catarrh developed
in my system. The physician did his best ,
but could not cure me ; but two bottles of
Swift's Specific gave me permanent relief.

Although our town seems very quiet , we arc
very glad to see that the farmers can always
dispose of all the produce , grain and cattle
they bring in , at as good a price and often bet
ter than anyplace around here. Butthis town
is not any more quiet than any town in this
part of the state , nor as much so as in many
of them. Just think of eight families arriving

and many more coming. Bed Willow county
has the finest farming land and tho brightest
prospects of any in this part of tho state , and
Indianola will keep abreast of the times.

and have always found it most excellent , and
especially for colds , croup and sore throat. It
is safe and effective. " , For sale by all drug

President Harrison's Civil Service
Views Defined.
Cleveland , O. , March 11. The Washington
correspondent of the Leader telegraphs his
paper to-night what he terms President Harri
son's policy respecting civil service , gathered
from a remark made by the president in an in
terview with a party of congressmen who had
presented the claims of certain individuals for
appointments. The president said he had de
termined to live up to the plank relating to
civil service reform in tho republican nation
al platform , and will select men to territorial
offices from citizens of the territory them
selves , where fit persons may be found. The
attention of the president was called to the
alleged inefficiency in the railway mail service ,
and the promulgation of an order by the late
administration placing the service under the
provisions of the civil service rule. Tho presi
dent replied that he would not revoke that
order , but would modify it somewhat. He
will have tho rule touching reinstatements
changed where it is specified that a dismissed
employo may be restored by having tho words
"within one year" stricken out. The order
will take effect the 15th day of June instead of
the 15th day of March.
On the subject of removal from general clas
sified service , the president said : "I would not
have a man removed simply because he be
longed to one political party or tho other.
There should be a good and substantial reason
for dismissal of clerks and officials goneally.
But I bold it is not necessary that the cause
should bo specified in all cases. Respecting
appointments generally , the president said he
should follow the suggestions of senators and
representatives.and expected those gentlemen
to recommend only good men for office. In
conclusion , ho urged his visitors io go slowly
and not press to hard for the removal of pres
ent incumbents. He said , in effect , that he
wanted to be sure he was right in every case ,
and thenhe would go ahead.

It is time that Indiana passed out of demo
cratic control. Since 1883 the management of
state affairs by the democratic party has been
woefully bad. In these seven years , accord
ing to the showing mtjde by Gov. Hovey , the
: ash in the treasury has sunk from nearly
$700,000 to about $25,000 , while the state debt
tias grown from $071,825 to § 2,331,000 , and a
aew loan of over $2,000,000 will be necessary to
meet the expenses of the next two years ,
rhese figures tell at a glance what democratic
rule has cost Indiana.

A Philadelphia judge recently rendered a
decision giving it as his legal opinion that no
person has a right to leave a horse or team
standing in the street without control of some
kind , and that when damage to person or prop
erty resulted from such negligence , the own
er of the horse or team is liable for damage.

The newest theory regarding the brain has
been advanced by a woman doctor of Chicago ,
who claims that that organ , from her expert"
ence , lies quite as largely in the abdomen as
in the head. If this be true it will clear up
many things which have heretofore been In
doubt , and furnish a reason for the queer ac
tions of many peoplo.

The new administration , it is said , will com

tons. The most of the new vessels will proba

most approyed plans for speed and dangerous
and heavy work.
The Omaha Bee fell very far short of success

hundred years behind the time in the matter
of civilization
