B. Jennings and unanimously electar ed by the convention. delegates to senatorial convention. Judge H. W. Keyes placed in nomination , R. . P- High , M. N. Eskey. C. M. Noble , N. J. Jo'in- son , N. A. Frame. S. R. Smith and C.T. Brewer , and their unanimous election by the conven- tion followed. REPRESENTATIVE. Nominations forrepresentativebeiiigordcr , , Judge J. E. Cochran placed Justin A Wilcox inbe nomination ; Royal Buck puttingL. C. Root before the convention. The nominating speeches were both splendid efforts and well received. An informal ballot was taken and resulted : in C4 votes for Wilcox and 19 for Root. The formal ballot was. 70 for Wilcox ; 13 for Root. Mr. Wilcox was then made the unani mous choice of convention , which was address ed in few but telling-words by both gentlemen. COUNTY ATTORNEY. For this ollice the present incumbent , R. M. Snavel3Esq. . , was presented by W. A. McCool ; and there being no further nominations , Mr. j af Snavely was chosen by acclamation ; which compliment he acknowledged in a very neat little speech of thanks and acceptance. COMMISSIONER. , The only spirited contest of the session oc- cured over the commissionership. ' The delefot gates of the district held a caucus , but failed to agree upon a man , and the matter came up for settlement in the convention proper. S. Pu B. Roe and C. T. Blackman were placed in tlm nomination. Speeches were made on behalf their favorite candidates by R. P. High and ani - W. Beck. Informal ballot resulted. Roe , 44 ; _ Blackman , 39. The result was somewhat dif ferent on the formal ballot , Blackmail reoeivv ing 43 , Roe 40. The secretary being in doubt , the ballot was again taken , with same result , rat however , and Blackmail was made the unaniwi mous choice of convention. GENERAL ITEMS. "iVo have had several onsea of sickness on our | South Divide , Mr. Henry Goodenberger had two children sick with cholera infantum , but they are getting better. Last Sabbath , a Sunday school was organ- i7f at Frederick school house on the Drift wood. Rev. E. J. Hall of the Lutheran church was elected superintendent. The occasional showeis we get are keeping tin crops in good condition. The prospects are < altogether very encouraging. Good crops and the shops cannot fail to create a boom. Rev. E. J. Hall has ten music scholars , all do ing well , and learning rapidly. He devotes es pecial attention to a thorough mastering of the rudiments of music. He charges only 25 cents per lesson. There is to be a union Sunday school picnic during the last week of this ino'fith , in which several Sunday schools of the South Side and Beaver Slope will participate. Singing and speaking ( exercises will form prominent feat ures of the occasion. The exact date and place wn be given in time. The Sabbath schools of McCook are all cordially invited to attend.
