THE DISCONSOLATE DEMOCRACY.
The ratification of tho nominations of Gen
eral Benjamin Hnrrison and Hon. Levi P.
Morton , as their national standard bearers , by
the republicans of Red Willow county , in this
city , last Saturday night , completely eclipsed
anything of tho kind that has ever transpired
in Western Nebraska , both as to numbers en
gaged therein and tho unbounded , spontane
ous enthusiasm which prevailed throughout
and marked tho every feature of the occasion.
Republicans from all over tho county , as well
as from adjoining counties , swelled tho ranks
of the confident and alert republicans of Mc
Cook. Five hundred yocman marched in the
monster torchlight procession , headed by the
bands and drum corps of the city. Stirring
speeches were made b3' Geo. H. Grubb , of In
dianola , William Weygintof Box Elder , and J.
B. Jennings of this citr , their utterances on
the political Issues of tho day being accom
panied by prolonged cheering , showing that
tho people are alive to the vital points involv
ed iu this national campaign and indicating
their absolute confidence in the lepublican
party and its standard bearers. Campaign
songs , an immense bon-flre on the hillside add
ed their mite to a rousing ratification in every
essential particular.
NOTES ALONG THE LINE.
Indianola sent up an enthusiastic delegation
of forty or fifty.
Our Mascotwill attend the Indianola ratifica
tion , to-morrow evening.
Somehow John Lewis' campaign song did
not rest well with Mr. Wahlquist.
To our bourbon friends , greeting : "Come ,
ye disconsolate , where 'ere ye languish. "
A large delegation from McCook expect to
participate in the republican ratification at
Indianola Saturday evening. Another rouser
may be anticipated.
Tom Colfer was there , but the strain on his
delicate constitution was too great for him.

ed thither. The contrast between the rntitica
tious was painlul even unto excruciation.

States , numbering 60,000 members , have joined
the American Protective League in a body.

Democracy hasn't intelligence enough to
comprehend , how anything can exist that will
benefit a manufacturer and at the same time
an employe. They can't realize how men will
be thrown out of employment if the manufac
tories are compelled to suspend operations.

to Wm. Relph , for his ranch , containing 1-0
acres , , and 5500 worth of cattle We think Mr.

Sometime ago we stated that Miss Lily Sey- (
mour had departed for her Colorado home.but j

ing train of that day. Miss Lily has been a
valuable acquisition to the society of West
Banksville and her departure will be matter
of regret to the young people with whom she
was a universal favorite. Her home is in one
of the natural parks of Colorado , where her
father is an extensive ranchman. Wc wish
her Godspeed.
Some time ago we stated that "democracy
with unlimited power , meant a monarchial
form of government" and we were taken to
task for making such rank predictions. We
will offer a little proof of our assertion. The '
democratic party have secured some campaign
badges , made of silk and representing Mrs.
