A WOMAN'S DISCOVERY. !
"Another wonderful discovery has been
made and that too by a lady in this county.
Disease fastened its clutches upon her and for
seven years she withstood its severest tests ,
but her vital organs were undermined and
death seemed imminent. For three months
she coughed incessantly and could not sleep. .
She bought of us a bottle of Dr. King's Now
Discovery for Consumption and was so much
relieved on taking first dose that she slept all
night and with one bottle was miraculously
cured. Her name is Mrs. Luther Luiz. . " Thus

COMPLETELY ECLIPSED
The Republicans of Red Willow County
Ratify the Nominations of "Ren"
Harrison and Levi P. Morton.
ENTHUSIASM UNBOUNDED !
Monster Torchlight Procession ,
Stirring Speeches , Every
body Happy but
THE DISCONSOLATE DEMOCRACY.
The ratification of tho nominations of Gen
eral Benjamin Hnrrison and Hon. Levi P.
Morton , as their national standard bearers , by
the republicans of Red Willow county , in this
city , last Saturday night , completely eclipsed
anything of tho kind that has ever transpired
in Western Nebraska , both as to numbers en
gaged therein and tho unbounded , spontane
ous enthusiasm which prevailed throughout
and marked tho every feature of the occasion.
Republicans from all over tho county , as well
as from adjoining counties , swelled tho ranks
of the confident and alert republicans of Mc
Cook. Five hundred yocman marched in the
monster torchlight procession , headed by the
bands and drum corps of the city. Stirring
speeches were made b3' Geo. H. Grubb , of In
dianola , William Weygintof Box Elder , and J.
B. Jennings of this citr , their utterances on
the political Issues of tho day being accom
panied by prolonged cheering , showing that
tho people are alive to the vital points involv
ed iu this national campaign and indicating
their absolute confidence in the lepublican
party and its standard bearers. Campaign
songs , an immense bon-flre on the hillside add
ed their mite to a rousing ratification in every
essential particular.
NOTES ALONG THE LINE.
Indianola sent up an enthusiastic delegation
of forty or fifty.
Our Mascotwill attend the Indianola ratifica
tion , to-morrow evening.
Somehow John Lewis' campaign song did
not rest well with Mr. Wahlquist.
To our bourbon friends , greeting : "Come ,
ye disconsolate , where 'ere ye languish. "
A large delegation from McCook expect to
participate in the republican ratification at
Indianola Saturday evening. Another rouser
may be anticipated.
Tom Colfer was there , but the strain on his
delicate constitution was too great for him.
Falling upon the neck of his friend Judge Le-
Hew lie wept copiously , desiring to be remov
ed thither. The contrast between the rntitica
tious was painlul even unto excruciation.
The transparencies attracted considerable
attention and comment. The appropriate in
scriptions were : "England Keep Hands Off. "
"Free Trade and Cheap Labor. Protection
and Good Wages. " "Tippecanoe and Morton
Too. A Full Vote and a Fair Count. " "A Solid
North in ' 88. No Mugwumps in'88. " "The Fif
teenth Amendment. Our Mascot. "

Mrs. A. D. Lincoln.who has been visiting tel-
atives and friends at Lincoln , is expected to
arrive home soon.
Hurrah for Harrison and Morton. Wo don't
need any snuff discolored bandanas , nor
"Queens of . " 0.000,000 of people , " to boom our
dual candidates.
Messrs.Cain and Hill have bought a new
Dcering self-binder and are icadyto assist iu
harvesting the democratic party , which is be-
lieved to be over ripe.
The National Lodge Amalgamated Associa-
tion of Iron and Steel Workers of tho United
States , numbering 60,000 members , have joined
the American Protective League in a body.
The republican party adopted a protective
tariff plank. Reader draw your own conclu-
sions.
Democracy hasn't intelligence enough to
comprehend , how anything can exist that will
benefit a manufacturer and at the same time
an employe. They can't realize how men will
be thrown out of employment if the manufac
tories are compelled to suspend operations.
Lo , the poor bourbon !
Mr. John Kerns has traded his beautiful J4
section of land , which joins us on the south ,
to Wm. Relph , for his ranch , containing 1-0
acres , , and 5500 worth of cattle We think Mr.
Relph has the best end of that bargain. We _
want to whisper to you , quietly , that Wm.
knows a good bargain when he sees it. J
Sometime ago we stated that Miss Lily Sey- (
mour had departed for her Colorado home.but j
it she her J
seems postponed departure until
JurySnd , leaving for her home on the eveni
ing train of that day. Miss Lily has been a
valuable acquisition to the society of West
Banksville and her departure will be matter
of regret to the young people with whom she
was a universal favorite. Her home is in one
of the natural parks of Colorado , where her
father is an extensive ranchman. Wc wish
her Godspeed.
Some time ago we stated that "democracy
with unlimited power , meant a monarchial
form of government" and we were taken to
task for making such rank predictions. We
will offer a little proof of our assertion. The '
democratic party have secured some campaign
badges , made of silk and representing Mrs.
Cleveland's lovely ( ? ) face and below the repre * I
sentation is the following , "Queen of 50,000,000
of people. " These badges were made byThos.
Stevens of Coventry , Eng. How do you like-
it , you who dote on your liberty and believe
in the attributes of a free government ? Pretty !
bitter we should call it. However , democracy i s
will swallow it , without a grimace. They are ! ]
used to it. "It's English , dontcherno. " _
People often say of the tariff question
"It don't amount to anything to the western
homesteader. " Well let us see if it is not of
the most vital importance. Mr. Thos. L. Joy i
of Birmingham , Ala. , makes the following I
statement , "It is not true , as the free tradeis
allege , that the consumer pays the amount of
protection duty. The competition of home
manufnture reduces profits to a fair return for
capital. The comparison below of prices in j
1850 , which were taken from a Georgia mer- '
chant's ledger of that date , with the prices of
the same articles in 1888 , shows thehollowness
of the pretense : 1850. IbSS.
Nails , per pound , $ .10. ? .05.
Calico , per yard , .12 ! . . .07.
Trace Chains , per pr. 1.C0. .50.
Socks , per pair , .10. .01.
Axes , 1.25. .75.
As 1850 was a year or low tariff and 18SS of high .
tariff , we should have expected to find prices .
higher in 1888 , than in in 1850 , but not so , So
long as foreigners controlled our markets , we
had to pay their prices. When we began to -
manufacture , prices began to be regulated by i
the cost of production. " SivAni.
