Stockville Faber : Henry Meyers charged by Isaac N. Shepherd with assault and bat tery and witn threatening to kill Shepherd , was brought before Judge Henderson , Thurs day. Meyeis was held in § 500 bonds pending continuance of the case to June 7th prox. They do tell a rare joke on one of our bash ful j-oung men. He was out driving , a few Sundays since , with the dearest girl in the world , of course. It became necessary to buckle the crupper , the b. y. m. hesitatingly explaining the while that the "animal's bus tle had come loose. " Salt is an absorbent. Thrown on tho sta ble floor , after it is cleaned , it will absoib the ammonia. Thrown into the manure pile it"will kill the seeds of thousands of weeds. The closing exercises of the public schools of the city , which occurred on Friday after noon last , were held in the Lutheran church , the high school room not being commodious enough to accommodate the large attendance of citizens who heartily enjoyed the occasion , and such events are ever entertaining and full of interest The preparations , though not intended to be extensive , were thorough , and the scholars acquitted themselves in a manner creditable to themselves and teachers ; as well , while the spectators were highly pleased with the performances throughout ' * I m * iW * E * w * it • 3 . Anderson to take note of its proceedings. It was unanimously agreed that McCook celebrate the Fourth and that she do so in a rousing , thorough manner. Whereupon the following officers and com mittees were selected to push tho matter in an enthusiastic , energetic manner : Judge J.E. Allen and Samuel Strasser con stitute the committee to solicit funds for tiie celebration. It is proposed to make the affair a memorable effort by the leading city in Southwestern Nebraska. Mayor , Clerk and full board pres ent The following grist was ground : Ordi nance No. 22 , entitled "an ordinance estab lishing a fire limit and prohibiting wooden buildings to be erected or placed within a certain limitin said City of McCook , Neb. , and providing for a penalty for violation thereof , " was introduced by Councilman Dix on , and passed under suspension rules by a unanimous vote. The following resolution was adopted , Dixon , Kay , Allen , voting aye ; Mclnroy , nay : Resolved , By the Mayor and City Coun cil of the City ot McCook , Red Willow coun ty , Nebraska , in regular meeting , that the Mayor be authorized to enter into contract with the Lincoln Land Co. for the erection of two watering troughs and two fire hy drants. Adjourned. THIRD ADDITION. Surveyor A. B. Smith of the Lincoln Land Co. , and corps of assistants , arrived in the city on Monday morning , and have been busi ly engaged , this week , in platting the third addition of 50 blocks to the original town. We might add here that the original town consisted of but 30 blocks , and that the third. addition is just as large exactly as the com bined original plat aud the first addition , which comprehended 20 bloclcs. The second addition is composed of 34 blocks , making a grand total of 140 blocks. The third addition surrounds the city on three sides , one block deep on the east and west , two deep on the north , and six long and four deep on the northwest. AN IMMENSE ATTENDANCE. Decoration Day dawned bright and beauti ful and peaceful , which featurescharacteri7ed tho day throughout. At the appointed hour the opera hall was crowded to its utmost ca pacity , not half tho people being able to gain admittance. Tho program as published last week was performed witlioutmaterial change and was of uniform excellence and interest , the oration by Rev. J. W. Kimmel receiving many warm words of praise. This part of the exercises finished , the procession formed in tho following order , and took up their march to Longview Cemetery : (1) ( ) McCook Cornet Band. (3) ( ) J.K. There is strong talk of now railroad shops at McCook , and tho town is feeling very much like having a boom in consequence. The sur veyors of tho Lincoln Land company are now laying out their first "boom addition. " Lin coln Journal. Judge J.E. Cochran , the latter part of last week , sold his property on the corner of Dodge and Macfarland streets , to Mr. V. Frank lin of the Citizen's bank for $1,875 , makiug a handsome profit , which he at once reinvested in city real estate. The Pioneer Press congratulates its neigh boring town of McCook , Nebraska , in having secured such a coveted prize as the plant of the B. & M. shops. The writer was on the site where McCook uow stands before there was a building to bo seen. Akron Pioneer Press. McCook is having a healthy boom in view of the proposed B. & M. shops. Property is ad vancing rapidly in price , and as soon as work commences iu earnest , the enterprising citi zens of that thriving city will show their faith in its future in a substantial manner. Plans for the Burlington & Missouri shops to be built there justify the confidence of tho residents.
