The recent developments in New York , Chicago , and now London , should cause a careful overhauling of affairs in . house-clean every city. Corporation - ing is in order at present all over the world. The world never before witnessed such a desire to invest in corner lots. The mania seems to have reached near ly every place from the Atlantic to the Pacific , and in the latter district is | wildest. A Pennsylvania monstrosity has ascertained , some miraculous manner , that prohibition is inimical to the Bible way , to God's plan ; is in factall , wrong. This backwoods philosopher is entitled to a front seat in Grover's cabinet. Democrats continue to be worried about John Sherman's daring to go South and the folly of his making a speech in Lousiana. There are lots of novelties in store for the Democrats be fore theend of next year's campaign. A cuitic objects to ' * a boom" to a Western town for the reason that "it is worked up. " He evidently thinks gen uine booms slip in while people are . The facts ' 'a boom" asleep. are , nev er yet struck any sleepy town full of dull people Some years ago it was considered a regulation joke to refer to the difference between a dressed woman and a dressed chicken. But there isn't enough differ ence now , if what the eastern society correspondents say is true , to base much of a joke upon. Calhoun. Test , of Missouri , has well nigh im mortalized himself again. After a pro tracted silence he says to a New York newspaper : "Cleveland will be renom inated if he can secure a majority of votes in the convention ; otherwise , some body else will head the ticket. " Yest has a long head for a Missouri demo crat. An exchange says : It is worth re membering that no newspaper or journal is printed especially for one person any more than a hotel is built especially to please one guest. People who become displeased with something they find in a newspaper should remember that the very thing that displeases them is ex actly the thing that will please somebody who has just as much interest in the paper as they have. During the year 1886 Dakota built and ironed 679 miles of railroad and graded ready for the ties 341 miles , in all 1,020 miles. Her total valuation of property for taxation in 1886 was $132 , - 063,905. This is greater than is shown upon the tax duplicates of Alabama , . Arkansas , Colorado , Delaware , Florida , Mississippi , Nebraska , Nevada , Oregon or Vermont. But it was not enough to move the soul of a Democratic Con gress. The votes were not right. AritONS seem to have become an in dispensable article of feminine attire. There is the utility apron , now made to look very chic and pretty , the embroid ered apron for demi-toilet , and the full dress tea apron , which is a mass ol lace insertion and satin bows. Many of the tea aprons are made like a continuation of the fichu , one-sided effect being pop ular. For example , one side of the fichu is arranged in straight folds , and on the other a jabot of dainty lace forms the edge. Mrs. R. W. Someus of Topeka has evidently perused MrS. Helen Gougar's recent unique letter to Kansas women , for she replies in an open letter to the "wandering women who are tramping over Kansas delivering lectures" in be half of woman suffrage , in which letter she says : "If those wandering apostles ' will go home and attend to home duties , their husbands and brothers will pro tect their interests and respect woman , woman's Irishes and woman's rights ; " MILLINERY !
