" The original idea of the modern bus tle is said to have arisen from a sight of the hump on a camel's back. Under the local option law of Massa chusetts a majority of the leading towns of the State have voted against license in any form. The white-winged angel of peace is not flying high this season in Europe. Too much personal baggage in the way of shot and shell. Henri Watterson's father boasts of having shaken hands with every pres ident since Monroe. And now Henri wants to shake Cleveland. An exchange suggests that the boys may be kept at home nights by simply inducing some of the neighbor's girls to run.in often. A popular plan. Sasi Jones began his sermon in the city of Robert G. Ingersoll's home , by remarking that "Infidelity is only a great big mouth that goes around talking. The astronomers announce that Ju piter now presents a curious red-spotted appearance. Perhaps the festive in habitants of the far-off planet are paint ing it red , so to speak. A Las Anisias special states that J.J. Sparrow , who killed J. H. Olive at Trail City , Colo. , some months ago , was convicted of murder in the first degree , after a three days's trial. The main driving wheels are G feet in diameter , and set but 7 feet , 6 inches apart. This arrangement will make her run easily on the curves. The cylinders are IS inches in diameter , with 24 inch stroke. . The boiler is 51 inches in diameter at the smokestack , with a wagon top. It extends to the very end of the cab , and necessitates the elevation of the engineer's seat to a height far above the fire door. The fire will call for three tons of coal before the engine can be pulled out of the round-house to make her trips , and four tons will be carried on the tank of the tender. The tank of the latter will hold 4,000 gal lons of water , and the total weight of the engine proper is 93.000 to 95,000 pounds. The weight on the driving wheel will be 60,000 pounds , or 4S00 , more than the Connecticut. She looks to be enormously high as she sits up well in the air , and her short smokestack adds to her apparent height. Every thing about her is of steel. There is not a particle of brass or bright work about her. She is expected to make the run from Providence to Groton , Conn. , a distance of 02.5 miles , includ ing a dead stop at Mystic Drawbridge , as required by the statutes of Connecti cut , in 62.5 pulling at the same time ei"ht cars , four of which will be Pull- mans.
