The senate of the United States goes
: on record as against female suffrage by
a vote of 16 to 34.
Now that the deed is performed there
! are about 40,000 Nebraskans claiming
the honor of having slain Cocl : Robin
( Van Wyck. )
I The absorption of the B. & M. into
j theQ" system , under one set of offi
cers is again contemplatedso our grape
vine line brings it.
| The good old days of the wonderful
| ' 'bob sled" are of the past. All such
mysteries of construction are now only
recognizable under the euphonic name
of "toboggan. "
It is an off day of frigid temperatinc
when some of the back counties' repre
sentatives fail to materialize with a
bill to establish a state normal school
at some cross-roads remote.
The Curtis Record gives it out cold
that Judge Amasa Cobb succeeds the
doughty Van Wyck in the United States
Senate. The Record's grape vine tele
graph is presumably a little out of kel-
tor , so to speak.
Van Wyck is credited as having
said to a friend , who was rather cast
down over the senator's defeat , "brace
up , old boy , the music has just com
menced. You have heard the overtuie ,
but mark the finale ! " List !
TnE senate has been polled on the
question of prohibition. Those favor
ing the submission of a prohibition
amendment , are Brown , Calkins , Cas
per , Heartwell , Holmes , Keckley , Ma
jors , Kent , Lindsay , Linn , McNamar ,
Meiklejohn , Bobbins , Snell , Sprick ,
Sterling. Those opposed are Conger ,
Bonesteel , Bumham , Duras , Iliggins
of Cass , Higgins of Colfax , Lininger ,
Moore , Schminke , Shervin , Tzschuck ,
Vandemark , Wolbach , Wright. Ab
sent , Campbell. Declining to commit ,
Colby and Fuller.
Susan B. Anthony has at last found
an occupation worthy of her abilities
and ambitions. She says she will devote
the remainder of her days to making it
hot for those senators who voted against
her suffrage amendment that was puta-
tively fathered by Blair. Ingalls , for
some reason or other , is to be the first
victim of her scalping knife , and she
has put out her proclamation that In
galls must go. Seriously , Susan has
said that the fellows that voted against
that amendment cannot be returned to
the United States senate. This includes
all the democrats and quite a sprink
ling of republicans. The democrats
will not be missed , as for the repub
licans , they had better try and make
their peace with Susan if they can.
We fear , however , that they cannot.
Susan is not a forgiving spirit. Lin
coln Journal.
It is estimated by the clerks who
handle the bills introduced in the house
of representatives that more than two
thousand measures have been presented
since it became evident to any wide
awake member that there was not the
least hope of action by both houses ,
and that the measures would die , and
that one-half of these , the authors well
knew , would never be acted upon by
either house. Even at this late day a
call of the house will result in the in
troduction of from one to three hun
dred bills when committee meetings ,
with a very few Exceptions , have been
suspended , and it is improbable , not to
say impossible , that any of them will
receive attention. Asked why this was
so , an old member said : "It is to satis
fy the constituency. Why , I have of
ten received requests from constituents
during the last month in congress to
introduce a bill , and when I told them
that there was not the least possible
chance of consideration they urged that
I introduce it any way. I have had
constituents insist that I introduce a
bill on the very last day of a session ,
and if I did not do it they would work
against me. " Bee.

and pain and also stopping that tickling
sensation in the throat by removing the
cause. One trial of it will convince any one
that it has no equal on earth for coughs and
colds. JJIcMillen & Weeks have secured the
sale of it and will guarantee every bottle to
give satisfaction. I
