OUR HOLIDAY NUMBER.
We present our readers with a twelve
page paper on this holiday occasion
r. our regular eight-page issue and a four-
page Christinas supplement , gotten up
at a considerable expense , which we
hope will meet with the approbation
and appreciation of our patrons , whom
we have labored to please. In sincerity
we wish our patrons a Merry Christmas
and a Happy , Prosperous New Year.
To pool or not to pool , that is the
inter-state commerce question.
LINCOLN has secured the Methodist
University a hard blow to York and
Bartley.
IT is stated that B. B. Cowdery of
the railroad commission , will be Secre
tary of State Law's deputy.
THE tenure of office bill has been re
pealed by the senate. Public offices
are public trusts , you know , sometimes.
THE capital city correspondent of
the Culbertson Sun says concerning our
State Senator-elect : "The election of
Mr. Lindsay to the senate from your
district is regarded with favor and one
who will be a credit to the state as
well as to his district. "
THE House of Representatives again
"sat down on" Horizontal Bill's tariff
bill , last Friday , by voting down a mo
tion to consider the same. Morrison
reminds one of a prominent character
istic of Commissioner Sparks , in his
singular ability to bob up serenely after
repealed squelchings.
TERY loud and universal are the
complaints against the close communion
condition of tho money market. This
financial tightness can be alleviated in
this wise : By every man meeting to
the extent of his ability his obligations ,
small or great. Thus will the channels
of trade and commerce operate more
freely.
THE McCooK TRIBUNE takes exceptions to
The Democrat's criticism of the appointment
of Dr. Knapp to be superintendent of the hos
pital for the insane. We fail to see , upon am
pie reconsideration , anything unfair in the
strictures at the time tho appointment was
made. Wo merely doubted , as we do still , the
advisability of the selection of a man who had
a limited country practice to such a post.
Lincoln Democrat.
While we feel that Dr. Knapp needs
no defense , we are constrained to sug
gest to the Democrat that the doctor's
twenty years experience as a successful
practitioner will not seriously hinder
his faithful and efficient discharge of
the duties of superintendent of insane.
Where known the doctor is esteemed as
a gentleman of culture and profession
al skill.

JIIss nettle Moore went down to Jndlau-

on No. 39.
Weather fine ; farmers busy ; some picking
com , some plowing. Stock is looking fine ,
and are in excellent condition to go into
winter.
Oh my ! but ain't this delightful weather.
It is much more like Indian summer than
winter.
The Rev. Morris delivered an excellent dis
course , last Sabbath , at the school house , in
district No. 58. On next Sabbath , Rev. Nor-
val of McCook , will fill an appointment at
the same place , a 11 , A. M. , mountain time.
Wm. Coleman went down to Indianola ,
on Saturday , in the interest of school district
No. 58 , of which he is the director.
M. H. Cole has built a bank shed , 20x50
feet in size. It is so nice and warm , that his
stock appear to enjoy it hugely , these fine
days , by standing off to one side , and look
ing at it.
Geo. Coleman came here in September ,
1884. lie had neither team nor cow ; had
about $200 when he moved on a claim , he
had taken the March preceding. lie now
has a team , some stock , and a new windmill
and his claim his worth Sl.COO. a What a won
derful streak of luck , say you ? I answer ,
he quit renting in Iowa , and came to Red
Willow county , and the above was the nat
ural result. This country does it every time ,
and is a common occurrence.
At the last meeting of the Board of
County Commissioners , a new voting pre
cinct was formed , by setting off Township 4 ,
Range 30 , and the place of voting was fixed
at the southeast corner of the northeast X of
section 21 in said town , that point being very
near the geographical center of the township.
This news will be hailed with delight by the
voters of this town. This action on the part
of the Board , become necessary by reason of
the rapid settlement and development of the
town. Now we suggest to Mr. Cain and Mr.
Smith , that they proceed at once to butcher
the "fatted calf , " and send out invitations
( remembering ye granger ) and make merry
with their friends. We have vivid recollec
tions of the time when the entire vote of the
town , would not have materially changed
the result of an election , still the town , went
republican , solid , every time , although no
speeches were made , and the election passed
off quietly. We acknowledge that it was a
little dry about those times , .hi fact , so dry
that you could not raise a fuss with a neigh
bor. Immediately after the late election a
petition was circulated through the town , for
signatures , requesting the Board to take ac
tion in the premises , which they did with the
result as above stated. Wm. Coleraau had
charge of it. In honor of an old resident of
the town , they named the new precinct ,
"Coleman , " which is all satisfactory to a ( or
"ye" ) GRANGER.
Mr. Webster , principal of our schools ,
made final proof upon his homestead near
Banksville , Dec. llth , and Mrs. Webster and
himself have reported for social duties in the
city. Mr. Webster owns a half section in a
body , and has nearly forty acres under culti
vation. He recently planted an acre of wal
nuts upon his tree claim , and will plant ten
acres of forest trees in the spring.
