Seeing nothing from this part lately in
your paper , I concluded to give yon a few
items :
A fine spurt of winter on Thursday last.
Frank Lytle gave a dance at his mansion
on Pilot Knob , Friday evening , the ISthinst.
Not being able" to attend , we cannot say
what kind of a time those present enjoyed.
Miss Carrie Christ htis gorie * es't to visit
an aunt. On her return , she , in company
with her father , Charles Christ , will leave
for Wisconsin , Mr. Christ's former home , on
a lengthy visit.
Smith Gordon has just completed a fine
large sod house , 1C.\24 on the inside , on his
pre-emption northeast of town. M. L. Brown
is also building a new .sod-mansion. Matt ,
would like to find some good looking young
lady for a cook , now that he has a cage to
put her iii. Surely some one ought to take
pity on him.
Our Sunday school held at Mr. Win. John
son's is both growing in numbers and inter
est. Some of its members have lately uni
ted with the church , and we would like to
see others following their example , "ite-
member every one is cordially invited to at
tend. The time of meeting is . " o'clock , 1' .
M. Preaching every three weeks at the
same place aud time , by Uev. Berry , of Mc
Cook.
Mr. Bates and family and Charles Car-
of Iowa brother-in-law and
retson , formerly , - -
nephew of J. S. Modrell , are stopping with
him a few days. They are on their way to
Hayes county , where they have claims. Mr.
Modrell invited the neighbors to come in
and enjoy a sing and social on Tuesday
evening.v About twenty responded to the
invitation and a very pleasant time was had.
Miss Maggie Bates has a very fine organ and
she knows how to use it. We envy the
Hayes county friends their new neighbors.
BANKSVILLE ITEMS.
E. L. Walker , who recently took unto
himself a life partner , has determined to set
tle among ns. He will be made welcome by
all.
Mr. Benjamin has recently purchased a
windmill , through the agency of Mr. Griggs ,
of McCook.
Mrs. Webster is residing on the claim tak
en by Mr. W. in town. 1 , range oO. We be
lieve that final proof will be made next
month.
We learn that Mrs. Williams and daugh
ter-in-law , mother and wife of Abram Wil
liams are expected from England , next
month.
Frank Albrecht has been engaged to teach
the winter term of school at this place. We
hear many good words spoken of him as a
teacher.
Travis W. Benjamin , son of W. II. Benja
min , left here , a week .since , for Lincoln ,
where , we leant , he purposes attending the
commercial college.
Abram Williams is sinking a well on his
claim , and purpo-.es building him a frame
house , next month. He will make final
proof upon his land in December.
Com husking is nearly completed. Among
those having an excellent yield were , P.
esch , W. II. Benjamin , W. S. Webster ,
James Hill , Francis Cain ; II. W. Smith and
H. Olstot. Mr. Wesch raised two thousand
bushels , and we learn Mr. Benjamin will
have about the same amount.
There seems to be considerable petty thiev
ing of late in our locality. Mr. Webster
seems to have been one of the victims , and
although he appears unconcerned about the
matter , we are credibly informed is "lying
low'for a certain deni/.en of the communi
ty , and will make an example of him when
lie .starts in pursuit.

"Tho third volume strengthens tho joo

the very facts the reader most wishes to know
while the extracts from the writings of the
authors described , are selected with discrimi

bestCyclopediaof literature in the language. '

instructor. This cyclopedia tells him , witl
illustrative quotations. To all it is a com
