For the benefit of a few people who have
congratulated themselves that Sivart was
dead YC have concluded to relieve their minds
from the strain under which they seem to
labor , and once more come to the front.
One person remarked that "Sivart wrote
about a man without any sand and died. "
We want to assure that person that we will
make a very lively corpse. And to others
who have said that we dare not write any
more , we would like to ask what will follow
such a heinous acton our part ? If they think
we are afraid of the ex-captaiu of the second
nine they are very much mistaken , although
he has been eager to circulate such a report. !
We have given him every opportunity to satj j
isfy his spleen , but he has apparently lost his ,
ardor on that score. But enough of this , i
The people of this community have chewed
this quid until it has Jong since lost its sub
stance. Talk is cheap and we are tired of it ,
let the lion ( ? ) loose , else stop its attempts
to roar.
The Banksville boys played Vailton a
match game of base ball on September 1st
and scored 20 to 17 in favor of Banksville.
This is the third time Banksville has scooped
Vailton and the surrounding country. The
mere fact that we beat them is not of much
consequence , but the way that we were treat
ed by them simply because we could not play
poor enough to allow them to make the
largest score is simply ridiculous. We must ,
however , except Messrs. Widgeon , Wade ,
Lefler , Palmer and Burton fiom any mis
treatment , as they are gentlemen and treated
us as such. And some others who were out
side of the'-nine were very solicitous of our
welfare. But aside from this we were used
as no visitors should be used if they made
themselves ever so obnoxious , which we did
not do , as any impartial person who was
there can testify.
Joe Eelph and Miss Gold , Harry Benjamin
and Miss Relph , attended the fair on Thurs
dayalso ; , Art. Dodge and Ed. Lawthers.
Mrs. Goodwin and family attended on Fridny.
Mr. Hotichin is building a large and com
modious house on his claim. It is a frame
\Y story , and will be an ornament to the di
vide , as well as a comfort to the occupants.
Geo. Cundiff s father-in-law arrived at his
place , recently , on a visit and to .see the
country. He declares himself as well pleased
with the same.
A. D. Lincoln , who has been in the eastern
part of the state for some time , is expected
to arrive home on Saturday , the 9th.
Mr. Eckley's father is sojourning with him ,
being desirious of looking after his son's
welfare.
Capt. J. O. Goodwin is expected to arrive
from Crete at any time.

Keeping time , time , time ,
In a sort of sickly chime.
To the idiotic minds
Of the fools on whose lapels
They are worn I
The ass is ass enough , C

Who a chestnut perpetrates ;
But he very far outrates
The peculiar ass and great
With the bell !

HENRY WATTERSON is so disgusted
with the attitude of his party in the
United States , which he declares was
"free trade or nothing , " that he has
i turned his time and talent to the writ
ing of a novel. Henry ought to write
a good novel.
IT is reported that the last ship
leaving Boston for the Congo country
was freighted , among oth'er things , with
one missionary and one hundred thou
sand gallons of New England rum. And
thus does the good work of christianiz
ing the heathen move grandly on.
BOB INQERSOLL has been studying
natural history lately and he says that
the grub we call "mugwump" has be
gun to grow wings and is more of a
democratic moth-miller to-day , than it
is a worm. It will soon be able to butt
against the lights in politics with the
best old wing-singed bourbon that ever
unfurled his flappers.
