of the county. We learn that 100 acres was
sold last week , u few miles east of here , for
§ 2,000. We say to those want ing good farms
in a pleasant locality , come on , no matter
how good the country is , some one is always

lloth Ilileman has indulged himself in a
span of bronchos.

One of Perry Stone's wild horses has got
the big head. Perry says he is afraid he will
go over the range.
Tim Ilanan had the misfortune to smash a
wagon wheel , last Thursday , while hauling
home a load of sand. }
C. II. Jacobs , his dog and revolver , played
a game the other night with Mr. Polecat , i
3Ir. Cat held a poor hand ( although a strong !
one ) and got euchred. j
Frank Preston is building a new house. It
looks like he is getting ready to well , 1 j
guess we will wait awhile. It won't do to j
tell tales out of school , for fear of the school J
marm. iI I i
A South Side lady introduced a new fea-
hire in the culinary department , the other
day. While getting up a meal for guests ,
salting the potatoes with sugar and filling
the individual salts 'with the same. She had
evidently been interviewing some of those
city agents , who are around selling cheap
sugar to the granger.
The party at 3fr. and Mrs. Perry Stone's , j
Thursday evening , was a success , socially '
speaking , those that had the good fortune' '
to be present enjoying themselves hugely. ;
The bountiful repast spread before the guests j
appealed to the inner man , and attested to j
the good qualities of Mr. and Mrs. S. as ho.st
and hostess. Miss Ilileman received many j

Autumn's solemncholy days have come.
Fred. Benjamin has moved into his new
home.
Miss Lena Burtless visited McCook , Sat
urday.
Dr. CritserV sod mansion is Hearing com
pletion.
We understand Mrs. Hopkins is quite sick
with rheumatism.
Mr. O'Neill and wife pissed through
Glenwood , last week.
We are glad to hear that Mrs. Joy is re
covering from her illness.
X. Burtlcss has been attending to bu : > iio. ! >
matters on the Willowduring ; the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. ( Jeorge Gowing , from the
Willow , are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. X.
Burtless.
Don't forget the temperance meeting to be
held at Glenwood , October 10th. All are
cordially invited to attend.
Mrs. Parker , who lias been visiting her
daughter , Mrs. Fred. Benjaminill return
to her home in Illinois , this week.
District 4S bus purchased of C. T. Brewer ,
u frame building and located it one mile
west of Glenwood for school purposes.
John Mauley , who has been rusticating on
his claim , has returned to Johnson county ,
this state. He returned sooner than expect
ed on account of the illness of his brother.
Ed. Benjamin and Mr. Ashley are expect
ed home from the Willow , this week , where
they have been to work during the past
month. They are both quiet , industrious
young men and their industry seems to lead
to coi.n. We presume 1 Hey were driven back

Jack Frost. Esq. , called on us last week.
Mr. McCroskleill make Jowa a .short
visit , this week.
Mr. Huffman and family returned to Sew-
ard county , on the Ultth. He intends locat
ing among us soon.
We met a brother of Jsahih Pate , Sunday.
M"r. Pate is late from Illinois and expressed
himself well pleased with the wot.
Mrs. Armstrong delivered an eloquent and
able discourse on the "Christian Armor , "
last Sabbath. We wish all could have heard it.
Victory ! The Vail ton base ball nino com
pelled the Banksville boys to make twenty
complete circuits of the ring to their seven
teen during the same number of innings ,
leaving Vailton champion of the lield for
Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas.
Joseph llelph's umpiring was pronounced
faultless by both clubs , and a general good
time was had all around. UAU-II.
